Current Recruiting Battles: USF vs. Auburn

The recruiting cycle never stops, the staff at South Florida competes with the entire country for a select group that makes it on to their recruiting board. However, sometimes the recruiting battle gets brought to the playing field, like this weekend when USF faces Auburn. Read on and find out what prospects will be keeping a close eye on Saturdays match-up.

1) DE Anthony Mains and DT Donnell Wilson (Naples)- Since they are teammates and both are getting interest from Auburn and USF it brings even more importance. Wilson has not yet been offered by either USF or Auburn, but he tells USFNation that both schools have requested his first two game tapes before they make a decision. Right now it's looking like Mains is leaning towards USF, this could be the game that closes the deal and gets him to commit early.

2) OL Ricky Barnum (Lake Gibson)- Barnum was very high on USF in April, things have changed since the spring. The Bulls have lost some ground when offers from Va Tech and UM came in. A win on the road against Auburn could open Ricky's eyes and there could be three players in the '08 class from Lake Gibson (James Jones and Josh Garvin).

3) NT Nick Craig (Carrollton, GA)- Craig is one of those players who doesn't have a major offer yet but is on the verge of having several. All it will take is for that first one to roll through and then the rest will follow. It happens a lot with USF – they offer first and then the major SEC and ACC schools follow. Craig is receiving interest from both USF and Auburn this game gives him a good chance to evaluate both schools.

Every football fan knows that the games are won in the trenches and all of the major prospects mentioned here play up-front, whether it's on offense or defense. In the coming weeks you'll see recruiting battles at a number of different positions, but the recruits being sought after by both AU and USF are the types of players that build the foundation of a quality team.

Stick with USFNation as we get reactions from these recruits and more after the big game on Saturday.
