USFNation Q & A with Bulls WR T.J. Johnson

USF won their home opener against Elon Saturday, and even though it might not have gone exactly as they wanted, the Bulls still walked away with a 28-13 win. The receiver unit didn't have the best night, but junior T.J Johnson who finished with a team leading 6 catches for 59 yards tells us his thoughts on the Elon game and what they have to do to leave Auburn with a win.

Taurus Johnson profile

What are your feelings about the Elon game?

"We kind of got off to a slow start, and we had a few drops out there, but we started to pick things up as the game went on. It might not have been the prettiest, but it's still a win"

What have you been focusing on this week so you don't have a repeat performance?

"Coach Canales wants us to play faster run our routes faster, crisper.  Also focus on catching the ball before we run, a few times out there Saturday we were trying to run before we caught the ball and you can't do that. We had some drops and we have to secure the ball you do anything else. We know what we're capable of, and what we have to do to execute."

Are you glad that that game is over with?

"Yeah we're ready to put that behind us. That game is over with now, and it's time to get focused on Auburn."

What do you think you have to do to get a win at Auburn this week?

"First we got to get our running game established first, that's very important. Yeah coach wants to open things up and getting our running game going will help that."

As a unit what do the receivers have to do to have a good game?

"As a unit, the receivers have to come out strong and play. We also got to play fast, Auburns defensive backs are really aggressive and like to play man up. So coach Canales wants us to play aggressive also and use our speed."

After watching game film do you see chinks in Auburn's defense?

"Yeah, we see some things in Auburn's defense and think we can take advantage of it, find the holes, call the right plays and exploit it."

There's a lot of hype for this game are you guys ready for it?

"Oh yes, we're ready to play. The whole team is excited. I mean going in to Auburn with all their history it's very exciting, and I feel that we're going to win. It's going to be hard but  I think we'll come out of there with a ‘W' and that's all I'm going to say"
