Even on a bye week the USF football team can still make history. When the polls were released today, the Bulls found themselves ranked as a top 25 team in the nation for the first time in the programs eleven years of playing football. The Associated Press has the Bulls at (No. 23) and in the USA Today coaches poll the Bulls are at (No. 24).

The Bulls were thrust into the spotlight after USF's 26-23 overtime victory at Auburn last Saturday. However, possibly due to the lateness of the game, weren't recognized in the polls last Sunday.

Since then the Bulls have received much media attention during their bye week Coupled with some losses by teams ahead of them in the polls, the Bulls are now recognized nationally as a top 25 team.

The Bulls football program began 11 years ago, and the rise from new FBS member to national ranking is the second fastest in NCAA history.

Boise State reached the Coaches Top 25 in its seventh year of FBS play, on November 11, 2002.

After 124 coaches polls USF finally reached the top-25. The Bulls received 285 votes in the AP Poll and is 48 votes behind No. 22 Georgia and 53 votes behind No. 21 Kentucky.

I hate to quote an old Virginia Slims slogan, but "You've come a long way baby!"

The Bulls start a two game home stand when they host North Carolina at Raymond James Stadium Saturday at noon on ESPN 2, and then faces Big East foe (No. 5) West Virginia on Sept. 28 on ESPN.
