Recruiting is always more complicated than it seems. This is true in the case of Anthony Mains, defensive end from Naples Florida. He told USFNation in late August that he would have a decision by the end of September, however it now looks like he will be pushing that date back to November when he plans on taking a visit to South Florida.
"I'm still not decided." Said a frustrated Mains, "I visited Wisconsin, Stanford and UCF, but I've been trying to set a visit with USF and things keep getting in the way."
First Mains wanted to set a visit for the West Virginia game – he had a game of his own that night. Then he wanted to come in for the UCF game, but that's his homecoming night. Now it looks like the November 3rd game against Cincinnati will be an open weekend for him.
"Hopefully the rest of their games are sold-out at home. I would like to come to one of those."
USF first offered Mains back in the spring and since then the 3 star defensive end says he's been following the Bulls ever since. That's why Friday nights win against WVU was no surprise.
"I've been telling my friend all along they were going to win, so today at school I got to rub it in a little bit."
This season the 6-foot-6, 220 pound pass-rusher is off to a hot start. In five games he has 58 tackles and 5 sacks. It's no wonder he's starting to get interest from schools like Tennessee and Ohio State. Neither has offered, but both schools are now calling him on a regular basis.
"I have narrowed it down to 4 schools. They are USF, Wisconsin, Stanford and Tennessee if they offer."
Mains says his three official visits have all been fun and he's looking forward to learning more about the Bulls.
"My visit to Wisconsin was awesome! I loved the game, that was the best part of the visit, that stadium was crazy."
"Stanford was a good visit, but the flight was so long and we had to do a lot of traveling."
"The UCF visit was great. I went to their first home game against Texas. I was really impressed with the stadium and I was surprised at how loud they got."
All that's left is a visit to Tampa. Mains says that he really likes the program and he needs to see one more thing before he makes a final choice.
"I want to meet the players at South Florida. I know about the program and I've been to a game already. I want to see how I get along with some of the guys on the team."
Anthony Mains is leaning heavily toward USF right now and so far they have weathered the storm that is Wisconsin. Since early in the summer Wisconsin has been their biggest competition for Mains' services. If he didn't commit after seeing a game in person then I don't think he will two months later when he's ready to make a decision. As far as Ohio State goes, I wouldn't look to far into it. Even Mains says they are just prolonging the process and he doesn't think they are going to offer. I don't ever call a kid a lock, but this is pretty close.
