6'5 JUCO Defensive End Favoring USF

The theme of the week seems to be JUCO players. Here is another exciting update on a big time defensive end. Only on USFNation.com -- Get it First, Get it Fast!

One way to ensure a winning tradition is to mix in a healthy amount of JUCO/CC players each year. The way things are going, South Florida could sign more junior college players in this class than they have in the last two combined. The latest prospect to show interest is 6-foot-5, 250 pound Johnathan Holston.

He was once part of the '06 class with the Louisville Cardinals, Holston was dismissed from the team in April due to grade issues. Now the stud D-lineman is at North East Mississippi Community College, where he is teammates with current Bulls commit WR Anthony Jones.

"I left Louisville went back home and went to school at TCC then I enrolled here and now I'm on schedule to graduate in December."

This season Holston has already made his presence felt with two sacks, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery.

"I'm back in the game! My speed is coming back and I'm getting better at using my hands and different techniques to rush the passer."

Holston is a graduate of Tallahassee Rickards, where he was recruited by Coach Wally Burnham coming out of high school.

"I know a lot about USF. They recruited me back in ‘05/'06. I actually had a visit set, but I couldn't get a ride down there that weekend, so I didn't make it in."

This time Holston says there is nothing getting in the way of his visit that is scheduled for November 17th.

"I just set the visit a few days ago. I'm coming in to see them play Louisville, it should be a good game."

Besides USF, Holston has received offers from Troy, Louisiana Tech and Mississippi State. He is also getting phone calls and letters from Alabama and Ole Miss.

My Take:
Assuming Johnathan Holston's grades come through as he says they will, he will be apart of the Bulls '08 class. With James Jones (Lake Gibson) committed and Anthony Mains leaning heavily toward USF, that potentially makes three DE's in this year's class and I wouldn't be surprised if USF took another.
