Location: Raymond James Stadium,Tampa, Fla.
Stadium Capacity: 65,857 Surface: Natural
Radio: WFLA 970 AM (Tampa)
USF: Jim Leavitt (11th season) Has a career record of 75-43 (.636)
UCF: George O'Leary (4th Season) Is 67-59 as a head coach, 15-26 at UCF.
The two programs have a short history on the field, only playing football twice, with the Bulls coming out on top both times. In 2005 Andre Hall had 187 total yards and scored twice as the Bulls won 31-14 at Raymond James Stadium. Last season at the Florida Citrus Bowl, USF pulled out a 24-17 win that ended when Chris Robinson sacked UCF QB Steven Moffet on 4th & 6 from the USF 10 yard line with 22 seconds remaining. Matt Grothe threw for 302 yards and ran for another 73 and threw for two scores.
Ok, did you watch last night's FSU game?
Don't you feel better about the FAU victory?
That's what I thought.
Ok it's UCF week which means we're going to have a little fun with the numbers. Before I get to that I wanted to mention that I'm proud of you guys for getting another sell out and another step to legitimacy. I'm excited about this weekend and excited about the future. It's going to be a beautiful day for football if the weather is anything like the forecast says. And in case you forgot, USF will be bowl eligible with a victory.
28 -- years UCF has been playing college football
11 -- years USF has been playing college football
5 -- USF's ranking in the AP and Coaches Poll, the highest ranked team in the state
0 -- Times UCF has been ranked in the Top 25.
2 -- Victories USF has over UCF
0 -- Victories UCF has over USF
1 -- Bowl victories for USF
0 -- Bowl victories for UCF
Wasn't that fun?
Inside the Offense
375 -- Total yards for Matt Grothe in last year's UCF game (302 yards passing, 73 yards rushing)
186 -- Rushing yards for Benjamin Williams last week against FAU
100 -- Rushing yards for USF as a team last year against UCF
52 -- Points yielded by UCF's improved defense against East Carolina last week.
When USF Has the Ball: Time to bring balance to this attack. Despite the ribbing, UCF is a much improved team on defense and they will be tougher than ever. Expect Matt Grothe to complete over 60% of his passes and throw for over 200 yards and expect Benjamin Williams to get 20 carries and gain over 100 yards as well. This could be the Bulls' best offensive performance to date.
Under the Gun: Amarri Jackson will have UCF's best cornerback, Joe Burnett, hanging on him. Burnett is a solid player with 27 starts under his belt, but he is giving up considerable size to the 6-foot-5 Jackson. Jackson's issues have come from a lack of focus, which leads to dropped passes. Expect him to have his best game of the season. Jackson is listed as questionable with a knee injury, but I expect he will play.
Inside the Defense
172 -- yards per game average for UCF running back Kevin Smith, best in the nation.
38 -- Points UCF scored last week in a 52-38 loss to East Carolina. UCF has broken the 30-point barrier five times this season.
0 -- yards for UCF running back Kevin Smith in last year's UCF game. Jason Peters rushed for 98 yards on 20 carries while Smith was serving a suspension.
10.5 -- sacks by George Selvie this season, best in the nation.
When UCF Has the Ball: Kevin Smith will dictate the offense for the Knights. He has 860 yards on the season and nine touchdowns. He will be facing a defense that has not yielded a 100-yard rusher since September 29, 2006 when Ray Rice rushed for over 200 yards in Rutgers' 22-20 victory over the Bulls.
Under the Gun: Ben Moffitt has emerged into a star for the Bulls through the first half of the season and could have another monster game Saturday by bottling up the UCF ground attack that has mostly feasted on weak C-USA competition. Moffitt also has a knack for creating turnovers as he has three interceptions and a defensive touchdown this season.
He Said What?!?: "What league are they in -- the Big East? -- UCF head coach George O' Leary.
