OT Cedric Mack Slows it Down

Two weeks ago Cedric Mack told USFNation he was close to committing to the Bulls. Find out why his visit to Iowa State this weekend has changed all that. Read on for the entire story.

The last time USFNation spoke with Cedric Mack the big man said he was thinking about committing to South Florida. After a weekend visit to Iowa State things could be changing.

"I'm going to wait to make a decision until I visit South Florida in January." Said Mack.

Although the date isn't definite, he says he's planning on taking an official visit to Tampa for the Bulls annual post-season banquet.

"I went to Iowa State this weekend and it opened my eyes to some things. I had a great time going out with the players and watching the game."

Does this mean USF is slipping?

"South Florida is still my leader. Right now it's them and Iowa State, I like what the Bulls have done this season and I'm excited to visit in a few months."

Mack says that he is in constant contact with the coaches. He talks to them every week and it's he who initiates the conversation.

"Sometimes they call me, but I usually call them first. I talk with Coach Simmons a lot."

Recently Mack said he had the opportunity to talk to the man himself, Coach Jim Leavitt.

"He got on the phone the other day to reassure me I still had my offer. He said he wants me to come in and be an impact player at right tackle. That was really cool."

Once he gets back to school Mack says he is going to get on his coach and get his transcripts sent to the South Florida offices.

"I've been working on getting my paper work together, when I get back I'm going to get my coach on it ASAP."

Mack will be a May graduate from El Camino, check back with USFNation as we will have more updates on this big JUCO offensive tackle.

My Take:
Cedric Mack is one of the highest priorities in this years class. The fact that Coach Leavitt has been talking with him is proof of how important he is. Mack is a USF lean and I would be surprised if he's not a part of the Bulls '08 class.
