A week ago USFNation introduced JUCO offensive lineman Andrew Mitchell to Bulls fans. We said that the USF staff had recently shown interest in Mitchell and the 6'5 300 pound left tackle was intrigued by the thought of possibly visiting USF if an offer were extended.
Now there is a break-through:
"I got a call (Tuesday morning) at like 7am. I talked to both Coach Canales and Coach Simmons. It was a brief conversation, they called because there is an offer on the table."
Mitchell said the conversation lasted for about 5 or 10 minutes and they mostly talked about setting a visit now that the offer is there.
"It looks like the weekend of December 14th will be the date."
Last time we talked with Mitchell he said he was going to Kansas State on the 14th.
"I'm going to drop Kansas State and replace that visit with USF. They haven't offered yet and I can't hold that visit date open."
The Bulls were not the only team throwing offers in the Big Man's direction on Tuesday. BYU also put their name in the mix.
"They offered today also. This offer won't effect my visit schedule because it's so close. BYU campus is about an hour from here and I'm already familiar with the area."
One name who could throw a wrench in this competition is Kansas.
"I talked to their Oline coach today and they said they were evaluating my tape. I could be getting an offer from them tomorrow. I don't know much about them. I do know they are having a great season and they are an up-and-coming team."
Right now Andrew isn't ready to name favorites, saying that won't be a possibility until all his visits are taken and he might not know where he wants to go until signing day.
This weekend is the start of the ‘official visit season' for Mitchell. He will actually be splitting the weekend in half with Arizona and Arizona State. Then he goes to NC State on the 24th and Oklahoma State on December 7th.
Stick with USFNation for the latest developments on LT Andrew Mitchell.
The offers are flying in for this elite tackle. USF is in a prime spot, as it stands they would be his 5th and final visit on December 14th. But with all these new developments the challenge will be holding that spot.
