Season over, Daniels to focus on recruiting

B.J. Daniels talks to USFNation in his first interview since his season started back in August. Find out what the QB had to say about USF, his visits and the current Bulls commit who has been recruiting him to come play in Tampa.

In the 2008 class the South Florida Bulls are looking to add an impact QB that can come in and play when Matt Grothe graduates in two years, and their #1 target is B.J. Daniels from Lincoln high school in Tallahassee. This year Daniels threw for over 2,500 yards, rushed for another 700, threw for 34 TD's (breaking the school record of 32) and rushed for 11 scores.

Last week B.J.'s season came to an end in a tough loss to First Coast in the second round of the playoffs, now he's ready to turn his focus to recruiting.

"That's what I'm thinking about now, recruiting." Adding, "I've got my calendar out and there are 6 dates I have open till signing day. All my other weekends will be spent either playing basketball or playing in all-star games."

"I know the weekends I have off, so I'm going to sit with my parents and fill in those dates with schools to visit. I'll probably know in the next two weeks what schools I'll choose."

Is there a leader right now?

"No, not really. Memphis, USF and Alabama are the three schools recruiting me the hardest. Last week I picked up offers from Iowa and Boise State, those are the latest offers I've received."

Daniels doesn't have a leader right now, but there is one visit he's confident will get scheduled.

"USF will be one of them. Coach Leavitt and coach Canales have seen me play and they tell me they like my leadership skills, my mobility and both were impressed with my arm when they saw me in-person."

The coaches are not the only one's recruiting him, he's getting pressure from a current USF commit and childhood friend.

"Daniel Bryant and I grew up together. He's been texting me and basically recruiting me to come join him at USF."

Once B.J. sits with his parents and schedules his official visits USFNation will have a better idea of who the finalists will be to land this dual-threat QB from Tallahassee. Stay tuned.

My Take:
B.J. Daniels is not only the most talented QB USF is recruiting -- he's the only QB USF is recruiting. That shows what the staff thinks of Daniels, in what is a pivotal year at this position for the Bulls. He has the same characteristics as Grothe even down to his on-the-field leadership skills. If the Bulls land Daniels it would be a smooth transition in two years when Matt graduates.
