Scouting the Bulls Linebackers

The USF was lead by its defense, one of the best in college football.  The Bulls forced 41 turnovers this season, an average of more than three per game which leads the NCAA. The Bulls 23 interceptions and 18 fumbles recovered also lead the NCAA. USF comes into the game ranked third in tackles for loss with 8.9 per game. USF is 19th in the country in rushing defense (112.0 avg.) and 26th in scoring defense (20.7 avg.). It's a team effort it and it centers around the linebackers that were the top three tacklers for the Bulls.


Senior linebackerBen Moffitt 6'2 245 pounds, the team leader on defense started every game for the Bulls in the middle with 42 career starts. This season he finished with 100 tackles, second best on the team, 12 tackles for loss 2 fumble recoveries and 4 quarterback hits. He also snagged 4 interceptions for 136 yards, one for a score. Moffitt was a All-Big East First Team selection and was a semi finalist for the Butkus and a quarterfinalist for the Lott trophy. Was named Camp, Nagurski, and Big East Defensive player of the week after picking off two passes , one for a score against West Virginia. Is ranked the 3rd best inside linebacker by Mel Kipper for the upcoming NFL draft.

Moffitt was a 2-star out of South Sumter HS, FL, was the Leesburg Commercial Defensive Player of the Year, Class 2A all-state second team, and was ranked 71st in the state by Orlando Sentinel.

Junior linebackerTyrone McKenzie 6'2 235 pounds, started all 11 games in his first season as a Bull after transferring from Iowa State. Finished with a team leading 111 tackles with 7.5 for a loss and was second with 1.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries, and also blocked a kick.. He tied a team record with 18 tackles in last game at Pitt.

McKenzie was a 3-star out of Riverview HS, FL,  and was ranked #85 at the position. Was first-team All-Hillsborough County selection and a Florida's top 50 prospect by the Tampa Tribune and second-team all-county pick by the St. Petersburg Times. Also played in the Hillsborough County All-Star Game

Junior Linebacker Brouce Mompremier 6'2-237 pounds, started 11 of 12 games this season. Finished third on the team with 82 tackles with 6 for a loss and also had  one forced fumble and one fumble recovery as a first year starter.

Mompremier was a 3-star recruit out of Miami Edison HS, FL,  and was ranked #24 at the position. Was a Two-time Class 5A first team all-state, and was ranked 22nd overall prospect in state according to Tampa Tribune, Orlando Sentinel and the Miami Herald, and 31st by St. Petersburg Times, and played in Florida-California All-Star Game...


Sophomore Donte Spires 6'3-221 pounds, was the top reserve linebacker for the Bulls, playing in all 12 games and started in season finale at strong side against Pitt. Finished with 16 tackles, 13 of them solo with 3 for a loss, one sack, and a QB hiturries and a pass break-up. Has 16 career starts after starting the last 6 games of 2006.

Was a 3-star prospect out of Pearl River and was First team Gridwire All-America and  earned JUCO all-state as the top defensive player for a team that reached the Junior College National Championship Game. Originally signed with USF out of Plant HS where he was Third team all-state, second team all-Suncoast and First Team all-Western Conference, and First team all-county as well
Redshirt freshman linebacker Sabbath Joseph 60-221, played as a back-up linebacker and finished with 14 tackles with 13 being solo.

Was a 3-star recruit out of Miami Central HS, FL, and was Class 6A first team all-state, .All-Dade County and was ranked 10th best senior by the Miami Herald. Played in Dade County All-Star Game and the Dade-Broward All-Star Game.

Senior linebacker Sam Miller 5'11-210 pounds,  a special teams standout that calls the snaps on punts, finishing with  7 tackles, 5 solo and ran 29 yards on a fake punt against Pitt.
Was a 2-star prospect out of South Sumter HS, FL.  was Class 2A all-state honorable mention and Leesburg Commercial first team all-area
Sophomore LB/DE Chris Robinson 6'3-233 pounds, came back from injury to play in 10 games finishing with 8 tackles, 3 QB hurries and a pass break-up. Has 16 career starts after starting the last 6 games of 2006. Plays as a LB/DE/pass rush specialist for the Bulls

Was a 2-star prospect out of Flagler-Palm Coast HS, FL

Scouting the Ducks Linebackers

Oregon leads the nation in tackles for loss at 9.3 per game. The Oregon defense has been solid in the red zone with opponents only converting 67 percent of their chances inside the 20-yard line, and it starts with the line.

Senior WLB A.J. Tuitele 5'11-226 pounds, started 6 games for the Ducks before missing five games with a foot injury, and has 21 career starts. Finished with 26 tackles, 15 solo and one for a loss Won the Gonyea Award as the teams most inspirational. He's the most seasoned veteran linebacker and the program's most instinctive linebacker and is a natural playmaker that provides an abundance of energy.

Tuitelewas a 3-star recruit out of Banning HS, CA, and was ranked # 25 at the position. was ranked as the seventh-best defensive back on the West Coast by SuperPrep and the No. 3 safety (PacWest Football), all-state team honoree was named to the California Hot 100 (Cal-Hi Sports)

Junior SLB Jerome Boyd 6'2-220 pounds, started all 12 games for the Ducks as a first year starter. Led the LB core with 70 tackles, with 10 tackles for a loss, 1 sacks, one forced fumbles and an interception. Is the fastest Duck linebacker and was named the tams most improved player and was a Pac-10 Honorable mention. Boyd is explosive, with good size,  and is a instinctive athlete who defends the run and makes plays all over the field.

Boyd was a 3-star recruit from Susan Miller Dorsey HS, CA, and was ranked # 24 at the position. A PrepStar All-American and rated among the top 40 prep prospects in California by SuperPrep magazine, first-team all-Coliseum League, first team all-state, all-city and all-area

Senior MLB Kwame Agyeman 5'11-205 pounds, Started last 7 games for the Ducks and has 20 career starts. Played WLB when Tuitele was injured for five games and the last two at MLB. Finished with 57 tackles, 32 being solo, with 10.5 tackles for a loss, one sack, and 2 quarterback hurries. Also scored on a 40 yard run against Arizona.

Agyeman was a 3-star recruit coming out of Lake Park HS, IL and was ranked # 30 at the position. Was first-team all-state selection  A three-year starter and two-time Upstate Eight Conference honoree.


Sophomore linebacker Kevin Garrett 5'11-215 pounds, played in 11 games and started once for the Ducks. Finished with 18 tackles, 3.5 for a loss, half a sack, and 3  QB hurries.

3-star prospect out of Nathaniel Narbonne HS, OR and was ranked # 17 at the position. Was all-South Bay/Westside Region linebacker and L.A. Times regional back of the year,  the fourth-best safety in the state who was rated 49th overall among California's prep prospects.

Freshman Casey Matthews, 6'2-223 pounds, played in 11 games and started once after John Bacon tore his ACL. finishing with 18 tackles, 4 for a loss, one sack.

3-star prospect out of Oaks Christian HS, CA, and was ranked # 21 at the position. Was ranked among the top 10 linebackers in California by SuperPrep and among the best 25 at his position in the country by Garnered Best in the West honorable mention. Two-time all-Tri Valley League selection also was named defensive player of the year and all-county his junior and senior seasons while leading the team in tackles both years.

Junior linebacker Erik Elshire 6'0-220 pounds,  finished with one tackle

Was a walk-on in 2005 from Summit HS, OR,  and was the teams 2003 defensive player of the year was an Intermountain Conference all-league pick as a linebacker and tight end. Chosen to take part in the state's 2004 Les Schwab all-star game

Redshirt Freshman linebacker Spencer Paysinger 6'2-222 pounds, finished with 2 tackles

2-star prospect out of Beverly Hills HS, CA. earned first-team all-CIF Division IV as well as unanimous league MVP honors.  

The Sun Bowl will feature the Bulls linebackers that have a combined 293 tackles from it's starters, while the Ducks have been battling through injuries but have a very solid core as well.
