Post-Signing Day Q&A: Quavon Taylor

One of the most exciting signings of the '08 class was linebacker Quavon Taylor. In this exclusive interview he talks about what position he'll play at USF, why he chose the Bulls and what it will be like when he takes the field against the Miami Hurricanes, plus much more. Only on!

What are your feelings now that Signing Day is over?

It feels good to be a South Florida Bull.  I'm excited about that.

What was it about USF that persuaded you to sign with them?

The visit.  When I talked with Leavitt at the end I knew I wanted to play for USF.  He wants to win and so do I.  Education is also very important, I want to be a criminal justice major.  When I was there they showed me all kinds of things, I was amazed by the facilities.

How does your family feel about your decision?

My mom loves it, she loves it.  It's wonderful that I get to play in front of my mom and my family.

Did you feel over-looked playing at Miami Northwestern?

I'm not worried about it….It's over now.  I'm not concerned with that anymore.

You have a lot of friends playing at UM, have you marked the date on the calendar when USF plays Miami?

Yeah, I'll be real excited.  I get to play against my guys.  Lot of guys I know will be on that field, I'm real excited.  I know it's supposed to be just another game, but there will be a lot of emotion.

Are you planning on playing linebacker or safety at USF?

I'm coming to play linebacker, but you know, if they can utilize me somewhere else I'm not opposed to it.

What can USF expect from Quavon Taylor when you step on the field at Raymond James Stadium?

A playmaker.  I'm coming to make plays and elevate this program to another level.  I want to win a National Championship.  That's what the fans should expect.

What kind of leader are you on and off the field?

I lead by example.  By the things I do and the way I carry myself.

How are your grades, are you expected to qualify?

My GPA is a 3.4, I got a 17 on the ACT.  I'm good with that score, but I'm going to take it again and see if I can do better.

What are you doing this off season to stay in shape?

I have got a gym membership and I've been working out there.  I'm trying to get up to 210 or 215 by the time I get to USF.  Right now I'm 203.

What are you looking forward to after high school graduation?

I'm looking forward to the transition from high school to college.  I'm ready to start living on my own.  Nothing is like Miami, but I'm ready to move to Tampa.
