Plantation QB will attend USF junior day

The Bulls wasted no time offering Brandon McGee, he got a letter in the mail the day after signing day. He's also been offered by UM, UF and FSU. Find out what he thinks of South Florida. Only on!

One of South Florida's top targets this year will be Brandon McGee of Plantation high school. McGee played quarterback last year, however he participated in 7 games due to a high ankle sprain suffered mid season. He was still able to put up some numbers – 1,100 yards passing, 13 TD's through the air, 450 rushing yards and 3 scores on the ground.

With his size, 6-foot-1, 180 pounds and his speed 4.4 forty time, it's no secret why the USF staff was quick to offer McGee.

"I was offered verbally a while back, but I was sent a letter in the mail on February 7th, the day after Signing Day."

Although it's early Brandon says he's already formed a relationship with one of the coaches at South Florida.

"Coach Larry Scott and I have a real tight relationship." Adding, "We talk on the phone a lot, when he comes by I can tell he's the real deal. He always tells me great things about the University of South Florida. Me and coach Scott are pretty tight."

Next year the Bulls are looking to load up at the safety position. Brandon plays QB in high school, so is DB a position he's willing to switch to?

"USF is offering me as an athlete, they said I could play quarterback, wide receiver or safety. I play quarterback in high school, but I think I want to play DB in college."

McGee says the reason he wants to play DB is because of his size. At 6'1 he's not the ideal height to be a big time quarterback, but he's certainly big enough and fast enough to play safety.

"I think I'd be an undersized QB"

"I didn't play any defense last year. This year I already asked my coach if I could play safety and he's going to work me into the defensive backfield this spring so I'm ready to go for my senior season."

There are other teams recruiting him as a DB, including Florida and Miami who recently offered and Florida State has offered him as an ATH.

At quarterback McGee says his strengths are reading the defense and making plays when the protection breaks down.

"When I step up to the line and see the defense running a Cover 3, I start laughing. I know I'm going to make a big play. Our offense is designed to take advantage of the Cover 3, I might give a receiver a Hot Route or something, I just know it will be a big play."

To stay in shape this off season McGee is running track, he runs the 100, 200, and 4x1. Last year he came in second place in his region as a sophomore. Once spring starts he'll be attending several junior days, camps and combines.

"I'll be at USF's junior day in a few weeks. I'm also planning on going to the UF summer camp, UGA summer camp, UM camp and I'm going to try and make the USF camp in July."

Stick with USFNation as we will update McGee after his initial visit to USF in two weeks and get his first impressions of the South Florida program.
