Big Man has a new outlook on USF after visit

On USF junior day, the Bulls picked up a commitment from Adaris Bellamy, but nearly picked up a second from this Tallahassee left tackle. Find out what impressed him and how his perception of USF has been changed.

The Tallahassee area is loaded this year and it seems early on that a lot of the talent is staying home and going to Florida State, however, the staff at South Florida is trying to change that. One of the players that could shake the trend is left offensive tackle John McGhin.

The 6-foot-5, 285 pound lineman was recently in attendance at USF's annual junior day and said the experience opened his eyes to a program he knew little about.

"I was there and I thought it was real nice. When I went down there and saw everything, I just wanted to stay there, that place is absolutely beautiful."

With one commitment that weekend (Adaris Bellamy) how close were the Bulls to getting a second?

"I thought about it, but I also want to wait and see what comes. I definitely want to stay in Florida and Tampa was really nice. I liked how clean it was, how nice the buildings looked and how the people treated us. Everything was great."

McGhin attends Florida State High School in Tallahassee, but grew up a Gator fan. His father taught him all about football he was a Gator fan, so it rubbed off on him.

"I grew up a big Gator, but it's not going to affect my decision and once I'm on campus I'll represent that school 100%."

This spring John plans to attend the Nike Combine in Gainsville, he will also go to Georgia Tech's junior day and possibly LSU, FSU and UF. Over the summer he'll be participating in several more camps and combines, but the exact dates are not determined.

"I've been invited to USF's one day camp in April. I need some more information, but I think I'll be going to that."

At 6'5, 285 pounds John McGhin is surprisingly agile for his size. This season his coach is implementing more option plays in order to get the Big Man out on the run and pulling more.

"I like when they call those option plays. I can get off the ball and clean someone out. That's probably my biggest strength – getting off the ball faster than the defense."

South Florida obviously made a good impression on McGhin, USFNation will follow John through the process and have an update if he signs up for the Bulls camp in April. Stay tuned for the latest.
