James Nearly Commits at Spring Game

With two early commits, the Bulls almost picked up a third on Saturday night. This 5'11 running back tells USFNation why he's so high on the Bulls and when he plans to make a decision. Read on for the entire story.

Out off all the recruits on the sidelines Saturday night, one of the most intriguing prospects was running back Mike James from Ridge Community High School. As a junior James rushed for 1,100 yards and had a combined 15 TD's rushing/receiving.

"I thought the game was Awesome." Said James, "I liked everything, I loved the environment and the coaching staff. I see USF as a place where I can fit in."

The 5-foot-11, 200 pound James is already picking up some early offers. The Bulls offered him around April 1st and he's also been offered by Louisville, Purdue and Syracuse.

"Coach Burnham is my main recruiter, he and I talk all the time. I've also spoke with the running backs coach (Carl Franks) and I've talked with Coach Leavitt twice."

South Florida has transformed more into a power running team in the last few years and Mike James fits perfectly into the Bulls offense.

"I am a between the tackle running back. I can use some finesse moves when I need to, but I consider myself a power back."

James has been following USF since their move to the Big East and knows a lot about the program. The Bulls are at the top of his list and a commitment almost came at the spring game.

"I thought about it doing it at the spring game (committing), but I'm going to wait a little while and see what happens before I make a decision. I really like USF though, they are my favorite, it's close to home and I like the whole coaching staff."

This summer Mike plans on working out and attending camps/combines. He says that he'll most likely attend the USF Showcase Camp in July. Stick with USFNation for more updates on Mike James and other '09 prospects.
