Plant City Duo Hopes to Play for USF

On Tuesday Denzel Drone and teammate Duran Lowe took an unofficial visit to USF and spoke with Coach Leavitt for nearly 30 minutes. Find out what was said and if an offer was extended. Only on USFNation.com!

A player that USFNation has been keeping a close eye on is Denzel Drone from Plant City HS. We first talked with Drone back in February and he expressed high interest in the hometown team, the only thing missing is an offer from the Bulls coaching staff. Well, we can't report that, but we can report that Denzel and teammate Duran Lowe were at South Florida on Tuesday for an unofficial visit.

"I was there to talk with coach Leavitt and coach Scott." Denzel added, "They said it will be about 3 or 4 weeks till I'm offered."

The delay is due to the coaching staff not being sure where they see Drone fitting in. He plays mostly defensive end and tight end, but it's more likely that he'd be a linebacker at the next level. With not a lot of high school game tape of Drone playing linebacker, the staff will need to take a closer look at him when Plant City starts spring practice on May 1st.

"I prefer to play defensive end, but I'm open to play anywhere. If it was up to me though I'd stay at D-End.

Although it was a short visit, Drone feels he got the reassurance he needed after speaking with Coach Leavitt for about 30 minutes.

"I thought the visit was good. I didn't take a tour because I've been there 5 or 6 times already, I was there mostly to talk to the coaches."

After the visit Drone said that he and Lowe talked about USF and both agreed the Bulls are at the top of their list.

"We both feel this is the school we want to go to. We love the program and it's our goal to both get an offer from USF."

Denzel already has offers from Kentucky, Troy and Auburn. Look for an update on safety Duran Lowe in the coming days.
