Bulls searching high and low for '09 talent

Ever heard of Alpharetta Georgia? The Bulls staff is looking to pull some talent from the small town in Georgia. Find out more about the 6'2, 205 pound OLB that South Florida offered last week. Only on USFNation.com!

The need to constantly re-load at the linebacker position started two years ago with the departure of Stephen Nicholas and Pat St. Louis, this year Ben Moffitt is gone and next year is Tyrone McKenzie's turn. With all the talent leaving the Bulls staff cannot afford a down year when it comes to recruiting linebackers.

One of the top targets at linebacker is a 6-foot-2, 205 pound prospect named Cedric Wilson from Chattahoochee High School in Alpharetta Georgia. Last year Wilson played on the outside, racking up 104 tackles, 2 sacks and on each sack he forced a fumble. Wilson also plays a little running back, scoring 10 touchdowns as a junior.

"I play both ways, but I'm going to play linebacker in college. Some coaches recruit me as an outside linebacker and some like me inside."

So far this spring Wilson has a dozen offers from teams such as UCF, Memphis Georgia Tech, USF, Clemson and Middle Tennessee to name a few. The latest team to offer the Georgia standout was the South Florida Bulls.

"About a week ago Coach Canales came to my practice and the next day I talked to him and he said they were going to offer."

On the defensive side of the ball Wilson uses his speed and awareness to stifle opposing offenses. Cedric was timed at a 4.48 forty at a recent NIKE combine.

"I'd compare my play to Geno Hayes (former Seminole, current Buccaneer). I am quick to read and react and I make plays sideline-to-sideline."

As a junior Wilson took 3 unofficial visits to University of Georgia football games and two to Clemson. Early on he says Clemson is a favorite.

"I loved the crowd there. That really had an impact on me, they were going crazy the entire game."

This summer Wilson plans on making it to several college camps including the Bull's one-day camp in late June. Stick with USFNation for the latest on Cedric Wilson and other top prospects on the Bulls recruiting board.
