This year the staff at South Florida is being very selective when it comes to quarterback offers. USFNation has learned there is another name to add to this elite list – Denard Robinson from Deerfield Beach HS received an offer two weeks ago from the Bulls.
"USF offered me two weeks ago and since then I've been talking to their coaches a few times."
Overall Robinson says he's collected 18-20 offers, including Michigan, Rutgers, UCF, Florida and LSU to name a few. Robinson is going into his senior year and it will be his third season as a full-time starter. Last year he threw for 1,936 yards and rushed for 428 yards. 17 total touchdowns. He was named Third Team All-State Quarterback by the FSWA (6A) his junior season, 2007. He was also named First Team All-Broward by the Miami Herald.
This spring Robinson is building on a successful, yet disappointing end to his junior season. Robinson led his Deerfield Beach team against the talent laden USA Today's #1 and Florida 6A Champion Miami Northwestern (2007) in 19-14 loss in the state semi-finals. Robinson was stopped just short of the end zone on a fourth down play.
"It was a tough way to end, but we're working to get back there." Robinson added, "This spring is about fundamentals and getting back to being team."
Denard is used to being a leader and says it comes natural, he's been in that role since his days of playing pop warner football. On the field, Robinson is a dual threat QB and last month at the Scout.com Miami combine he ran a 4.38 forty. At 6-foot-180 pounds Robinson says he's more than just a runner.
"I do run a lot and I like throwing on the run, but I can sit back and pass from the pocket as well. My favorite route to throw is the post-corner, I have the arm strength to stretch a defense."
When he's not playing Robinson tries to watch as much college football as possible and says it's the spread offense that he's attracted to.
"I watch the offense that Florida runs, USF, they do a good job with their offense. I also like West Virginia and I'm sure Michigan will be running the spread next year."
This spring Denard says he's working on getting his timing down with his wide-outs and he's also doing some planning with his coach. Right now they are working on a schedule for his summer workouts.
"I'm going to take one road trip and try to hit as many schools as possible. It's going to be a bunch of schools, my coach and I have been working on the schedule, we should have it done in a week or so."
He says he would like to stop in Tampa for their one-day camp, but as of now he's not sure if it will happen. USFNation will check back with Denard Robinson once his summer plans are final.
