Cali O-Lineman Could Step in at RT for USF

In a strange twist of fate the Bulls may have found their JUCO Right Tackle they were looking for in the '08 signing class. It comes 4 months after signing day, but it's better late then never. Find out who it is and why he's eligible to play in the upcoming season. Only on!

After missing on a few crucial JUCO offensive tackles last year (Andrew Mitchell and Mike Diaz) the Bulls just may have found their man. Zach Hanson 6-foot-8, 310 pounds is currently finishing up his first year at Sacramento City JUCO in California.

In 2006 Hanson graduated high school from a small town named Linden about 45 minutes south of Sacramento, for Nevada-Reno College, where he had a full scholarship to play football. Soon after arriving on campus Zach says he knew it wasn't the right fit for him and left for Sacremento JUCO, dropping a full scholarship in the process.

"I was being recruited by Cal, UNLV and San Jose St., but I made my decision before anyone could really offer." Zach said he made what he thought was the right choice, "It was close to home and I thought everything would work out."

In '07 Hanson started at Guard his freshman year and had what he considers an excellent season.

"They moved me inside because my older brother was the starting left tackle and they had a right tackle that was a year older then me also."

Recently Zach Hanson received some encouraging news about the status of his eligibility. Once thought to be an '09 prospect, Zach was told he could get his AA in July and be ready to strap on pads for the upcoming college football season.

"It was a surprise, I expected to join a team in the Spring of '09. When I found out I basically started sending emails to colleges that were recruiting me for '09 and told them I could be ready sooner."

One of the coaches who received that email was South Florida coach Mike Canales.

"I gave him a call because they had offered me for '09 and when I told him, they decided to offer me now."

Hanson is currently looking at two schools, Arizona and South Florida. This coming Thursday Zach will take a visit to Arizona and he's working on setting one up very soon with USF.

"I like Arizona because it's close to home and they play in the Pac 10, I've always wanted to play in the Pac 10. They haven't told me much about playing time, I'll find that out when I get there."

Although Florida is on the opposite side of the country from where he's currently living, Hanson says it won't effect his decision.

"I like the idea of living in Florida. Also the coaches told me there is a good possibility for early playing time."

Besides Arizona and USF, Hanson is also getting interest from Kansas State and Texas Tech. Once eligible, Zach will have 4 years to play 3, meaning he's got a redshirt year if needed. He also said he'll make a decision by July 12th, that's the day he'll receive his AA degree.
