USFNation Class of '08 Q&A: Cory Grissom

In less then a month the next USF class will arrive on campus, and DT Cory Grissom of Troupe County HS, GA, will be one of them. In today's exclusive Class of '08 interview find all about the LaGrange GA defensive lineman, what type of a player he is, what he wants to accomplish, and much, much more. Only on! Cory Grissom Profile  What have you been up to since the season ended?
Cory Grissom: I graduated in May, and I've just been trying to get back in football shape, been lifting weights and running. 

USFN: What were the main reasons you chose USF?
Cory: It's hard to say a main reason, I liked everything about it, the players, the coaches, everything.

USFN: What coaches made the biggest impression on you during your recruitment?
Cory: Coach Canales, I like him, he's just real cool.

USFN: Which position are the Bulls recruiting you for, and do you play any other positions?
Cory: I played both defensive end and tackle in high school. The coaches are talking to me about playing defensive tackle at USF. 

USFN: Do you know any of the current players on the Bulls?
Cory: I know Terrell McClain & George Selvie, I met them on my visit and they were real cool to me.

USFN: What type of defense do you like to run the most?

Cory: I like to run in the 4-3, I know it, I like it, and do well in it.

USFN: What type of offense do you like to see when you get to the line?
Cory: It really doesn't matter it's all the same to me. I play the same way how ever they line up.

USFN: Do have a favorite play that you like to run?

Cory: There's a play called Thunder. Where I step up field, and then drop back to the MIKE linebacker spot in coverage. Hopefully the quarterback throws and I get an interception.   

USFN: What are some of your strengths as a player? 
Cory: My strengths are my size, explosiveness, and getting to the ball faster then anyone else.  I
use my hands well and I burst off of the ball.

USFN: Are they're any special moves you like to use?

Cory: I don't have any special moves or anything. I try to use my hands and

USFN: Is there anything that you would like to work on as a player?
Cory: I want to work on my conditioning, and get ready for that Florida heat.

USFN: What is your favorite thing to do on the field?
Cory: Not sure, probably to get through the fullback, and get to the quarterback. 

USFN: What is the perfect play to you?
Cory: Perfect play? Sacks, interceptions, big hits, fumbles, they're all good to me.

USFN: What is your most memorable moment on the field?
Cory: In this one game, I think it was against Jordan, I hit the quarterback, he fumbled, and the defensive end picked up the ball and scored.


USFN: Is there a player on another level, college or pro that you model your game after?
Cory: I'd say Dwight Feeney, He used to play on my favorite NFL team, and I used to play some DE, and he's just a good quick lineman.

USFN: What are your current height, weight
and 40 yard time?
Cory: I'm 6'3, and my weight is 280, last time I ran a 40 I got a 5 flat.

USFN: Do you play any other sports?
Cory: Just wrestling 

USFN: What are you going to do to stay in shape before you get to Campus?
Cory: I just have been training at school. I'm benching 315, squatting 395, and last time I power clean I did 265. I'm running and trying to get in the best shape  

USFN: Do you have any issues if they ask you to redshirt?
Cory: No, not if they feel is what's best.

USFN: What do they plan to accomplish while here at USF?
Cory: I'd like to go in, work hard and be able to start my freshmen year.

USFN: What team are they most looking forward to playing against in the next 4 years?
Cory: West Virginia!

USFN: When I say USF, what come to your head?
Cory: The first thing that comes into my head is HOT!

USFN: How are you doing in getting qualified?
Cory: I got a
2.9-3.0 GPA, and scored a 19 on the ACT, but I need one more point on the math part, and I'm taking the ACT again next week. I've been studying hard and I'm ready.

USFN: Are you excited to get to campus?
Cory: I been ready since the West Virginia game last season.

USFN: Is there anything you want to say to USF fans?
Cory: Just tell them I'm excited to be coming to USF and be a Bull!
