4-Star WR Keeping the Bulls in the Mix

Jamal Reid tells USFNation that he wants to visit FIU, UCF, USF and UM before making his final decision. Read on to find out why the Bulls standout and what current USF players are talking to Reid about the upside of playing at South Florida.

The top receiver on USFNation's HOT 20 is Jamal Reid, although he's being recruited at different positions by different teams, the South Florida Bulls have offered him as a wideout.

"Some teams recruit me as a safety, Miami is recruiting me at corner and USF likes me at wide receiver."

There is no right or wrong position to place Reid. He's an elite athlete that will succeed at safety, corner or receiver. Reid is one of the rare prospects that just "makes plays" whether it's the game changing pick on defense, out jumping the corner on offense or an electrifying punt return, Reid gets it done!

Last year Jamal was one of the state's top two-way players, he was a first team All-State pick as a junior. He finished the year with over 1,000 yards and 15 touchdowns through the air and had 10 picks on defense. This spring Reid worked at both WR and DB.

"I worked on both sides of the ball this spring. I'm going to play both ways this fall and see where I end up. I would play either in college."

As for the school Jamal will play for on the next level, he says nobody is out of the picture yet.

"I talk with all the schools that have offered me. The last school I talked with was Miami, that was last week. I'm going to sit down with my coaches soon and figure out what schools I'm really interested in and then visit them early in the fall."

Reid says he hopes to have a top 5 by the end of the summer, take some visits in September and have a decision ready for mid-way through his senior season. If possible Reid says he'd like to stay instate.

"If it's the right situation I would prefer to stay in Florida. I have offers from FIU, UCF, USF and Miami. I talk with all those teams on a regular basis. I've visited all of them except Miami, but I set up a visit with them later this summer."

The Bulls like him at receiver and it works out well because his main recruiter from South Florida is wide receivers coach Mike Canales. Reid says the two have a good relationship and he likes what the program has done over the past few years.

"I like the campus, the coaches and the city. I think it's a good place. I've been their quite a bit, for games and everything. I have to cousins on the team Marcus Edwards and Darren Powe."

As a matter of fact, Jamal spoke with Darren Powe a few hours before we interviewed him.

"He asked me about my workouts and what I've been doing. I haven't talked with Marcus since he came home about a month ago. They talk about USF, but they don't push me in any directions. Darren says that USF fits him perfectly and that he likes the coaches and the atmosphere. He talks to me like a role model, he doesn't put any pressure on me."

When he's ready to decide, Jamal says there are three factors he's looking for; the coaching staff, the team and the overall atmosphere.

"It's going to come down to little things, because this is the place I will be living for the next four or five years."

Before making it final Reid hopes to visit all the Florida schools that have offered him. Stick with USFNation.com, we will catch back-up with Jamal towards the end of his summer to see if the Bulls will make his top 5.
