5-Star JUCO DE Planning a Visit to USF

Jason Pierre-Paul a 6'5, 250 pound DE from Fort Scott Community College says he's moving back to Florida to finish his career. He originally committed to UCF out of high school and after a year of JUCO has offers from UCF, Auburn, UF, FSU and South Florida. See what he has to say about the Bulls and what their chances are. Read on for all the details.

In the past two seasons the Bulls have been both hot and cold when it comes to landing JUCO talent. Last year they hauled in three great players in Theo Wilson, Kion Wilson and David Bedford. However they also just missed on offensive linemen Andrew Mitchell, Zach Hanson and Mike Diaz, three recruits that would have made an immediate impact.

It's time for Bulls fans to turn their attention to a new target – Jason Pierre-Paul who plays at Fort Scott Community College in Kansas. Pierre-Paul originally committed to UCF when he was a senior at Deerfield Beach High School, now the Bulls will try and battle their cross-state rival for the services of this 5-star JUCO defensive end.

Before transferring to Fort Scott CC, Jason played his freshman year at College of the Canyons and made a big impact racking up 12 sacks, 37 tackles and 12 TFLs and was named First-Team All-WSC as a freshman. After breaking out in 2007 Jason Pierre-Paul is getting plenty of attention from college coaches. He has offers from UCF, Virginia Tech, Florida State, South Florida, Florida and Auburn.

"The biggest thing to me is coming in and playing right away. Any college I go to I want to compete for a starting job, I don't want to redshirt."

Jason also says that location will come into play when making a final choice on colleges.

"My goal is to make it back to Florida to finish my college career. I've been away from home now going on two years and I want to get back so I can play in front of my family. I'm open to playing somewhere out of state, but if the situation is right I want to move back to Florida."

Coming out of high school Jason never gave himself that opportunity due to his grades. Although he committed to UCF, he says JUCO was the only route that was possible.

"I never played football till my last two years in high school. I wasn't planning on going to college before that, then I was doing well on the field and instead of paying attention to school, I let it go to my head and I was too far behind. I had everyone telling me different stuff, teachers, friends, family. Going away was good, now I'm ready to finish school and play football."

Jason says he doesn't have much contact with college coaches, they mostly talk with his coach. South Florida recently spoke with his head coach last week.

"Coach Patrick called my head coach last week, they talk a lot, USF is recruiting me pretty hard. I know about the program because Coach Leavitt offered me out of high school. USF is in the mix, I want to take a visit there soon."

The 6-foot-5, 250 pound DE is a freak on the football field, he runs a 4.65 and says that D-End is his natural position but would have no problem moving to defensive tackle if that would get him on the field first. He has all A's this summer and needs to complete two more semesters, which puts him on pace to graduate in December.

Jason says he's working on setting up a visit with South Florida and could make a decision shortly after that. He currently has no other visits scheduled. USFNation will have another update with Jason Pierre-Paul once we hear a visit has been set.

My Take:
Although he's only working on one visit right now, I expect Jason to visit both Florida and Florida State before making a final decision. He emphasized in our interview that his final choice will be heavily influenced by the depth charts of the teams he's considering. Look for him to make an announcement in early-to-mid Fall.
