The linebacker unit is always a recruiting priority, and the '09 class is no different with the Bulls graduating 2 starters after the season. One of the top recruits this year is Sam Barrington from Terry Parker HS in Jacksonville.  He's been mentioned quite a bit on USFNation.com and is one of the top linebackers in the latest USFN Hot 20.

"Things are going great. We just won our first district game against Bartow 21-20," said Barrington. "We got no injuries, and got homecoming coming up, so everybody is feeling good."

Barrington is a 6-foot-2, 210 pound linebacker that the Bulls have been recruiting since the
Terry Parker standout recorded 104 tackles, 74 solo, with three sacks and had three fumble recoveries as a junior. So far this season the two-way player has 11 rushing touchdowns  and 540 rushing yards while playing running back, and while playing multiple linebacker positions recorded over 50 tackles, 5 sacks, 1 interception, 2 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries, and about 6 pass break-ups on the year.

The Terry Parker has been one of the most heavily recruited linebackers in the state of Florida this year. Barrington claims over 24 scholarship offers, and has a top five consisting of USF, Purdue, Illinois, Clemson, and South Carolina.

"South Florida is the leader, "said Barrington. "But the rest are in no exact order."

Barrington says it's the Bulls that are on him the hardest, and speaks with
Coach Burnham and has a great relationship with Coach Douglas, who came by and watched him play for an hour and a half the other night.

"The thing that has gotten me on South Florida the most is Coach Douglas. He's done a great job of recruiting me. When I went to their camp I got to meet a lot of the coaches and I felt real comfortable."

The highly coveted linebacker says there are many things that attract him to the Bulls, including the coaches, the players, and the depth at the linebacker unit, among others.

"I like the style of their program. When I watch them on TV, I can see myself being there. I've talk to players who I played against. Guys like Kion Wilson from Raines, a DB from Mandarin (Charlton Sinclair). They all say great things about the program."

With the season progressing quickly, Barrington has been thinking about visits. He's already going to be at Purdue Nov 1st, Illinois Nov 16th and is working on setting up visits with Clemson & South Carolina. Sam previously said he may not take an official to USF, but now things have changed.

"What I'm thinking about doing is setting up an official visit there so I can get a chance to see more of the school and let me know if I want to put it in stone. So far there has been nothing about South Florida that I've seen or experienced that I don't like."

The visit date for USF hasn't been set yet, and right now Barrington is focused on his homecoming game against Sandalwood.

"This week we got Sandalwood for Homecoming, I'm involved in a lot of the activities and I'm running for king, so I'm real excited."
