Did USF Find a "Secret Weapon" at WR?

We already reported that Miami Pace teammates Kayvon Webster and Sterling Griffin will visit USF the weekend of Jan 9th, but now we know of a third member of the team that just scheduled a visit. Read on to find out who he is and where he stands with USF.

It's that time of year, the time when new names start sprouting up on the board. The newest name to report is out of Miami Pace high school, Derrick Hopkins. He's a 5-foot-7, 160 pound receiver that plays both football and track.

"I've been in contact with USF for a couple months now. We've been talking that's all, no offer yet."

The Bulls coaching staff likes Hopkins as a slot receiver and return man. He was timed at the FSU camp as running a 4.32 forty time and he has one D1 offer from Kansas State to go along with a slew of track offers.

"I bring a lot of explosiveness to the field, I run in the 4.3's and I'm a 10.2 100meter guy. I had about 20 receptions for about 400 yards. But on returns they stopped kicking it to me. I had one return for a touchdown early in the season and after that they stopped kicking it to me. I guess they got frustrated and figured it'd be easier not to kick it."

Hopkins says he's followed USF this year and sees where he'd fit in their offense.

"I would bring exciting returns to special teams at USF and enthusiasm on the field. I just get out there and makes plays, I'm that secret weapon nobody's found out about yet, that's me."

This will be Hopkins first official visit of the year and he'll be joined by not only teammates Kayvon Webster and Sterling Griffin, but his mom and step dad will be on the visit as well.

"I'm looking forward to meeting the players and coaches and seeing how I'd fit in if I went there. Coach Scott has been recruiting me for a while, I like him a lot, so it will be good to talk to him while I'm there."

We'll talk with Hopkins after the visit to find out if an offer was extended by the USF staff while he's in Tampa.
