Bulls Face Tough Road in Big East Tourney

The USF men's Basketball team opens Big East Tournament play this week in New York. The No.14 seeded Bulls open against No. 11 seeded Seton Hall at 9:00pm at Madison Square Garden.

For the first time in the four seasons of Big East play, the USF men's basketball team is making an appearance in the Big East tournament. The Bulls enter as the No.14 seed and will face No. 11 Seton Hall Tuesday at 9:00pm in Madison Square Garden.

The Bulls finished the season 9-21, and went 4-14 in BIG EAST conference games. Seton Hall went 16-14 overall and finished 7-11 in the conference.

The Bulls are led by sophomore sensation and All-Big East selection Dominique Jones who averaged 18.2 points per game, 5.5 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 40 steals, all team highs. His 19.0 points per game in conference play ranked fourth in the BIG EAST, and sixth in the league.

Looking further, if USF wins their first round opener on Tuesday, the Bulls would play No.6 Syracuse at 9 p.m. in the second round of the playoffs. If the Bulls can get by the Orange, they would then face No.3 Connecticut Thursday at 9:00pm. The Big East finals will be played Saturday at 9 on ESPN.

Louisville enters the tournament as the No.1 seed, Pittsburgh No. 2 seed; UConn No. 3; and Villanova No. 4. The top-four seeds receive double-bye's in the tournament. If Pittsburgh and UCONN win their quarterfinal matchups the two would play each other in the semi's Friday night at 9 p.m.

This is the first time the USF men are in the post season tournament, so you could say the Bulls are looking for their first Big East title, and the spoils that come with it. The winner of the 16-team conference tournament earns the BIG EAST's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Considering that the Big East is the toughest conference title to win, such a feat would be nothing less than a Cinderella story for the ages. Just winning a game or two would be something, but it's still fun to dream, even for a little bit.

Tuesday's first-round games can be seen for free on BIGEAST.org, while the remainder of the tournament will be televised on ESPN.
