The goal is simple for Venice tight end Beckett Wales – he wants an offer from the University of South Florida.
"USF is recruiting me pretty hard, they are telling me that they don't have a spot for me right now, but they're thinking about moving one of their tight ends to either center or somewhere on the offensive line. They told me that on a visit I took over the summer. So if that happens they'll have a scholarship for me."
Although he doesn't have an offer from the Bulls, Wales has collected 4 other offers thus far from the likes of Syracuse, Iowa State, Indiana and Townsend. Besides these offers he has about another dozen schools that will be evaluating him off his senior season.
"USF is my leader, my favorite right now. Coach Franks is my recruiter and we've been talking for a while."
Wales says a decision could come soon, pending a USF offer.
"If USF offers, I'm taking it. If they don't offer I'll probably wait till signing day. I'll see what happens, I'll take some visits. I want to see Indiana and Duke."
This summer Beckett spent his time refining his game.
"I did some camps and did a lot of weight training. Nothing too crazy this summer," adding. "Our team participated in the USF Sling and Shoot. It was a good time, lots of competition. It was good to play against such good players."
All that work paid-off, Beckett added 10 pounds while decreasing his forty time as well.
"I'm at 6'4, 225 and I ran a 4.61 at Friday Night Lights and a 4.62 at my school."
Beckett currently has a 3.4 GPA and a 950 on his first try at the SAT. Wales plans to take the SAT one more time this fall. Stick with USFNation.com to find out if the Bulls coaching staff pulls the trigger on Beckett Wales.
