Bradenton quarterback Brion Carnes was the Bulls first commit of the 2010 class, committing to USF before the 2008 season was even over last December. Carnes is a 3-star prospect currently ranked the 44th QB in the nation by scout.com, but if his performance in Manatee's kick-off classic against defending champs Plant Friday is any indication, than that may be understated.

Carnes has thrown for over 1,000 yards in each of his three years as a starter, throwing for 1,200 yards, 12 touchdowns and five interceptions and rushed for four touchdowns last year in nine games, making All-Area First Team. However, Manatee missed the play-offs last year and switched to a spread offense, and after watching them this spring and in the preseason opener, that bodes very well for Carnes and the Hurricanes.

Carnes was on fire, throwing for four touchdowns and 304 yards in leading the Hurricane's to a 49-33 win over Plant, who has won 2 Class 4A state titles in 3 years. Carnes did it with his arm and his legs, throwing 4-touchdown passes and completed 18 of 22 passing for 304 yards, while rushing for 82 yards and 1 rushing TD.

His first score took only 33 seconds. On the second play of the game Carnes hit WR Ace Sanders who took it for a 65-yard touchdown.

After Plant scored after a 12-play drive, Carnes lead manatee down the field capping it off with Carnes scoring on a 13-yard run. The Panthers scored two more times, going up 26-14 in the second quarter, but Carnes responded with a 26-yard scoring strike to Ace Sanders to cut the score to 26-21. Darius White intercepted a pass on Plants next possession, taking it 38 yards for a TD and gave Manatee a 28-26 halftime lead. Carnes was 6 of 7 in the first half.

The second half scoring began with Carnes hitting Sanders again for a 32-yard TD and a 35-26 lead. Plant cut the lead to 35-33, but after that it was all Carnes and Manatee. Carnes moved the ball and hit Quentin Bundrage on a 56-yard TD pass and a 42-33 lead. After a beautiful run by Carnes Mike Blakely finished the drive by hitting Ace for a long gain and then Blakely ran the ball in for a 49-33 lead.

Receiver Ace Sanders had huge night with 7 catches for 188 yards, and 3-touchdowns (65, 26 and 32-yards.)

After this performance Carnes and top receiver Ace Sander's stock should only rise. If you want to see for yourself then click here to .
