USF in Top 3 for Pace OLB

Last year the Bulls cleanedup at Miami Pace, signing Kayvon Webster, Derrick Hopkins and Sterling Griffin. This year they are an early favorite for Isaac Dixon a 5'11, 195lb outside linebacker. Find out who else he likes, where he plans on visiting and when he could announce a final decision. Read on for the details.

The Bulls are thin at the linebacker position for the '09 season and are looking at Miami Pace linebacker Isaac Dixon to add future depth. Dixon had a great start to his senior season recording 9 tackles and a forced fumble in his team's jamboree game.

"I worked on a lot of technique and speed this summer."

At 5-foot-11, 195 pounds Dixon runs a 4.55 and uses his speed and quickness to make plays. He finished his junior season with 125 tackles, nine sacks and three forced fumbles. This summer he was invited to camp at Kansas State and performed so well that he walked away with an offer. Besides Kansas State he's received 9 total offers including Ole Miss, FIU, Purdue, Oregon and South Florida. The Bulls offered Dixon in the spring. He's being recruited by Coach Larry Scott and has been told that enrolling in January is a possibility.

"I like coach Scott a lot, I talked to him a few times in person. Plus we had a few kids commit from our team last year so I'm real familiar with him."

Last year Miami Pace had 3 recruits all sign LOI's with the Bulls. Kayvon Webster, Sterling Griffin and Derrick Hopkins. This could give the Bulls the edge when it comes to recruiting Dixon.

"Those guys don't even need to say anything because two of them are already starting. Kayvon at corner and Sterling at receiver."

The fact that two former teammates are already starting at South Florida has made an impression on Isaac.

"I talk to them all the time and they want me to come to USF too. I wouldn't mind playing with some guys that I already know."

With the season just about to start Dixon is ready to name a few leaders.

"My top 5 is Oregon, Oklahoma State, USF, Ole Miss and FIU."

Three of the five schools in Dixon's top 5 are from out of state. Dixon moving away from home doesn't bother him.

"I like the idea of leaving the state right now, it might be something I want to do."

Within the next week Dixon says he could have a couple visits scheduled. He's already got one nailed down. "I'm going to Oregon this month. I think its set for September 19th."

Dixon says he hopes to take his other visits during his season. There are two schools he'd like to use official visits on, South Florida and Ole Miss.

A decision could be coming soon as well.

"I might be ready to make a decision by week 3 of my season. After my visit to Oregon."

For now Isaac is staying busy talking with coaches. Today (Sept. 1) is the first day schools can call. Dixon has heard from 2 schools already and expects to speak with a few others before heading to bed for the night.

"I talked to a coach from Central Michigan, a coach from FIU and I missed a call from Oregon. I think more are calling tonight. My coach wants me to call a few schools too, he wants me to call Coach Scott from USF and call back Oregon."

Besides excelling on the football field, Dixon has also gotten it done in the classroom. He's got a 3.1 GPA and a 17 on his first attempt at the ACT. USFNation will have more on Dixon once he sets his visit date with the Bulls.
