FS Nate Allen, who had a team-high 10 tackles and forced a fumble in USF's 40-7 win against Wofford, earned a spot on the BIG EAST weekly honor roll for his performance in the home opener.
As a junior Allen was a preseason Thorpe Award candidate, and finished the season fifth on the team with 53 tackles, with two tackles for loss. He also had one sack and one interception, the pick came during fourth quarter against Kansas and setup the game winning field goal by Maikon Bonani. He had a single-game high 11 tackles against Pitt, and had four games with seven tackles or more.
As a sophomore Allen quickly established himself as a play maker in his first year as a starter, and a player to watch. Allen led the USF secondary with 78 tackles, a team leading 3 forced fumbles, also tied for 2nd with 4 picks, and added 1 FF, with 3 pass break-ups. In week two against Auburn, he forced a fumble, recovered a fumble and intercepting a pass in route to being named the Nagurski Defensive Player of the Week.
