Bulls Host Virginia for Home Opener

USF will host Virginia for the 2009-10 home opener as the Bulls look to avenge last season's 77-75 loss to Virginia in Charlottesville, the only meeting between the two teams.

The USF men's basketball team hosts Virginia for the home opener tonight at the Sun Dome. Coach Heat is 1-1 in home openers at USF, and overall the Bulls are 29-9 in home openers, and 20-1 in the last 21 seasons

USF opened their season Friday with a 67-61 win at Southern Methodist, and Gilchrist shined, with a career-high 23 points on 8-for-12 shooting along with nine rebounds, two shy of his best total last season. USF's five starters scored all 67 points for the Bulls, grabbed 24-of-31 rebounds and recorded all 13 assists and all three blocks in the season opener at SMU.Chris Howard added 14 points and seven assists while Dominique Jones had 13 points and six assists. Junior Jarrid Famous scored nine and senior Mike Mercer contributed eight points

Virginia opened the season with an 85-72 win over Longwood on Friday, as Head coach Tony Bennett won his UVa debut. Sylven Landesberg led all scorers with 23 points. Mustapha Farrakhan tied a career high with 17 points. Mike Scott (12 pts, 13 rebs) had his 11th career double-double.The Cavaliers shot 60.0% (30-50) from the field vs. Longwood
