Final Stretch: Mitchell Focusing on Three

4-star cornerback Terrence Mitchell has settled on his three finalists. Read on and find out who they are and where the Bulls stand with the coveted hillsborough corner.

Terrence Mitchell, the four-star cornerback from Hillsborough Senior High School in Tampa, has been one of the more heavily recruited cornerbacks in Florida this year, and with signing day just around has trimmed his list to three.

"I'm looking at Florida State, Illinois and USF," said Mitchell. "Those are the three I'm focusing on."

Mitchell had plenty of offers from elite programs including Florida State, Georgia, North Carolina, South Florida, Tennessee, Miami, South Carolina, Mississippi, and until recently Mitchell's favorite list consisted of FSU, USF, UT, UGA, and Illinois as the five schools remaining in the hunt for Mitchell's services. That's no longer the case.

"I dropped Tennessee from consideration," said Mitchell. "I'm kind of still considering Georgia, but I got to do some more research on them, because they still don't have a defensive coordinator."

The No. 12th ranked corner in the country has already taken official visits to Georgia (Oct. 3) and Tennessee (Oct. 31), but his two most recent visits were to Illinois on Dec. 5 and South Florida on Dec. 11, with both schools making his final cut.

"Illinois was nice and I had a good time," said Mitchell, "Coach Zook was a nice guy and seems like he cares about his players. It didn't snow but it was like 30 degrees and I never seen cold like that, so that was cool, but it's not something that I couldn't get used to."

"I had a real good time on my visit to USF. Coach Leavitt is a high energy coach, and can't wait until you get there. His attitude speaks for itself, he's always energized."

"I got to tour the school and see things I never saw before. The weight room, the facilities, the campus and stuff like that. I also got to go to their football banquet. My host was my cousin Lindsey Lamar. We spent a lot of time together and got to meet a lot of the players. It was all real nice."

Mitchell got to spend time with the coaching staff including his primary recruiter Coach Larry Scott, and defensive coordinator /defensive backs Coach Joe Tresey.

"I like Coach Scott a lot," said Mitchell. "He tells it like it is and we have a very good relationship. I spoke a lot with coach Tresey, and he told me how he can use me, and how he would love to have me, stuff like that. It was a good conversation."

Mitchell has one last visit to make and that will be to FSU on Jan. 8.

"I'm looking forward to my last visit and meeting new head coach Fisher and the new defensive coordinator Coach Stoops."

The coveted cornerback says we won't have to wait until signing day to find out his choice, but will know his decision earlier.

"No I won't wait until signing day, said Mitchell. "I want to take all of my visits, compare all of them and make my choice after that."

Mitchell did say what he's looking for in making his college choice.

"Mostly I'm looking for where I'll be home, and where I'll be comfortable with my surroundings," said Mitchell. "Playing time matters, but it doesn't mean all that. Wherever I go I got to go in and do my thing. I got to go in and perform wherever I go and compete for my job."

The standout corner already has taken trips and said his visits to Illinois and South Florida is what keeps them in his final three.

"I felt real comfortable at both Illinois and at USF," said Mitchell. "Now I want to see how my trip to FSU compares." Out of his three finalists, do any of them have an edge or a lead right now?

"I don't have a leader, they're all pretty even," said Mitchell. "It's going to be a tough choice period."

Stay tuned with as we follow one of the most coveted players in the state as he finishes up his visit schedule.
