USF Recruiting Quick Hits: Damage Control

While many schools spend January recruiting, basking in the glow of bowl victories (or licking their wounds from a tough season), and focusing on the 2010 football season, South Florida is performing damage control to preserve the 2010 recruiting class.

Unless you live under a rock, it's well known that USF Head football coach Jim Leavitt, the Bulls only coach since their inception has been let go by the university Friday.

With Leavitt gone, Athletic Director Doug Woolard has begun a national search for his replacement, and Coach Carl Franks, the Bulls running backs coach and recruiting coordinator for the past six seasons, was named interim head coach.

Coaching changes happen all the time, but the timing of Jim Leavitt's dismissal couldn't be any worse in terms of recruiting. With just over three weeks before national signing day Feb. 3, the Bulls are in a holding pattern.
