New USF Head Coach Skip Holtz had his first big recruiting weekend and it couldn't have gone any better. He received his first verbal commitment towards the 2010 class when Jake Kaufman the mammoth offensive lineman from North Jersey told him he is going to be a Bull!
"Yes sir, it's official. I'm going to be a Bull!" Kaufman said. "I loved everything about the school!"
It was a big weekend for the USF staff, and Kaufman was the biggest recruit there, literally. The St. Peter's Preparatory School offensive tackle stands over 6'8+ and weighs 325 pounds. Jake's sheer size makes him one of the most intriguing prospects of the class and his potential is as enormous.
‘I loved the school. I love Coach Holtz .The whole team is one big family, and all of that is what it takes to win a National Championship, and I know this is the team that can do it!"
Kaufman plays for St Peters prep and had plenty of top offers, but in the end narrowed it down to Wisconsin, USF, Georgia and Rutgers, before choosing the Bulls.
"I had a lot of offers, but know I made the right decision," said Kaufman. "I came in with an open mind, but as soon as I saw the place, I knew it was the right place for me, and got a feeling that I did not get at Miami, Florida, Georgia, Wisconsin and Rutgers."
Considering he hails from New Jersey, not going to Rutgers wasn't easy.
"It was hard leaving Rutgers because I felt like home because I was there so much and I knew the players. It's tough not going to Rutgers, but at least I'll get to go there every other year and play against them so I'll be looking forward to that."
Kaufman was hosted by Damien Edwards, said him and everybody else was great. He also said he loved everything about his visit and the Bulls new head coach Holtz. and can't wait to get back to Tampa.
"I can't wait until football starts, because I am ready to work hard and I'm ready to win a position. Everybody better watch out for Jake Kaufman because he's coming in hard and will give you one hell of a time. He's going to be one hell of a player to stop!"
Kaufman visit Wisconsin a few weeks back, and was going to visit Ohio State, but that trip is now canceled.
"No more visits, I'm done," said Kaufman. "I'm a Bull for life!"
