USF's D-Jones Earns BE Player of the Week

When the BIG EAST Conference released the league's men's basketball weekly honors Bulls guard Dominique Jones earned the top spot and was named the BIG EAST Player of the Week Monday afternoon after averaging 33.5 points, 8.0 rebounds and 6.0 assists in two games, including 46 against the Friars.

USF guard Dominique Jones earned the BIG EAST Player of the Week when the conference released the weekly honors Monday. While Villanova guard Maalik Wayns earned Rookie of the Week honors.

The Bulls junior guard Jones was named BIG EAST Player of the Week after he averaged 33.5 points, 8.0 rebounds and 6.0 assists, 2.0 steals in 41.5 minutes per game. He also shot 54.8 percent (23-42) from the field and 81.8 percent (18-22) at the free throw line.

Against Providence Jones compiled the second-highest scoring total in a BIG EAST game in history, posting a school-record 46 points in a 109-105 overtime win over the Friars. He also had game highs of 10 rebounds, eight assists and three steals.

Against Cincinnati he had 21 points and six boards in a 78-70 loss.

For the season, Jones is third in the BIG EAST in scoring with a 21.0 average. In league games, he is averaging 25.1 points. This is Jones second BIG EAST Player of the Week honor.

The USF standout guard has earned two Player of the Week honors, four Rookie of the Week awards and has been on the Weekly Honor Roll three times. Dominique is also a two-time BIG EAST Honorable Mention player and was selected to the Preseason BIG EAST Honorable Mention team.

Averaged 26.0 points in a 1-1 week. Scored a career-high 35 points in a loss at Notre Dame. Had a game-high 17 points in a win versus Marquette.

Greg Monroe, Georgetown, C, So.
Averaged 17.5 points, 12.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists in a 2-0 week, which included a 74-66 victory at Pittsburgh. In a win over Rutgers, he posted 21 points, 14 rebounds and six assists.

Tim Abromaitis, Notre Dame, F, Jr.
Averaged 28.0 points and 4.0 rebounds in a 1-1 week. Scored 30 points in a win over DePaul and 26 in a loss to Syracuse.

Wes Johnson, Syracuse, F, Jr.
Averaged 22.0 points and 11.5 rebounds in a 2-0 week. Scored 22 points at Notre Dame and against Marquette at home.
