There was some Bulls hoops history made Thursday night at the Sun Dome, as USF beat Seaton hall 76-74 for its second-straight overtime victory. The back-to-back conference wins are the first since joining the Big East in 2005, and the Bulls now have a bona fide conference win streak going, their first ever.
Dominique Jones led the Bulls with 28 points, his seventh straight 20-point game, and had four rebounds and three assists. In his last seven games Jones is averaging 28.4 points per game, shooting 51.6 percent from the floor and 78.9 percent from the line.
The Bulls had a chance to win in regulation and had a five-point lead with 90 seconds to play after leading most of the second half, only to have the Pirates tie the game with 27 seconds left. The Bulls ran the clock down with a chance to win but Dominique Jones missed a 17-footer as time ran out to force overtime.
Seton Hall score first in overtime, but the Bulls tied it up, took the lead and never trailed again. With the game knotted at 73-73, Senior Chris Howard, who had 12 points, put in a one-handed layup with 39 seconds left to put the Bulls up 75-73. On the ensuing possession The Bulls fouled Seton Hall's Herb, who made his first, but missed the tying free throw with seven seconds left.
The Pirates then fouled Jarrid Famous, who hit one free throw for a 76-74 lead. Then with five seconds left in overtime, as the Pirates attempted to tie the game and force a second overtime, Famous came up with the big steal to close the game out. Famous recorded his sixth double-double of the season, with 15 points and 14 rebounds.
USF is now 13-7, and are 3-5 in the BIG EAST and are off to their best start since joining the Big East after going 4-14 in conference play last season.
