Nature Coast receiver Ja'Juan Story is becoming a wanted man. The 6'4-188 pound receiver with a reported 4.3 speed has seen his recruitment take off recently. On Tuesday he received an offer from USF.
"I talked to Coach McGeoghan the night before, and then the next morning they said I had an offer," said Story. "It felt real good. I was real excited and couldn't stop smiling."
Later in the afternoon Story drove down with his uncle, his brother Antwon, and Coach Rob Kazmier to take his first unofficial visit to Tampa to learn more about the Bulls.
"We got in a little late around 5:00 because I had track practice," said Story. "We checked out the campus, the facilities, the training room, the film room, talk about academics and got to meet some of the coaches and players. Afterwards we went to the basketball game. Everything was real nice."
"We spent some time in the film room and I really liked how they tape all the practices and then watch the video afterwards and go over everything. I liked that a lot."
While touring the weight room Story got to see the Bulls tool to motivate the team inside the weight room, an interactive video record board that allows current players to compare their performance against their teammates and former USF all-time greats, and came away very impressed.
"I liked that video record board a lot, that was real nice to see how all the players records are broken down by position and kept," said Ja'Juan. "I never seen anything like that before, and could see my name holding some of those records. It was real cool."
"I went to FSU last year. They have good facilities and a real nice weight room, but didn't have the technology that USF has."
Ja'Juan also got a glimpse of the 30-million dollars in upgrades that have just begun to improve USF's athletic village.
"They showed us all the stuff they're building around campus for the athletes. The training room, a dining hall for the athletes, basketball facilities, and new practice fields," said Story. "They doing a lot and it seems like it's going to be real nice."
Story got to meet several of the receivers and quarterback B.J. Daniels.
"I got to meet a few of the receivers, A.J. Love, Dontavia Bogan and Sterling Griffin, they were all real cool and welcoming to me," said Story . "B.J. was real nice too. I was surprised how big and thick he actually was."
Ja'Juan got to spend time with several of the coaches including receiver Coach McGeoghan and Head coach Skip Holtz.
"Coach McGeoghan is real nice I like him a lot. He told me they don't have a receiver like me and see me as a guy to step in a fill the role of the guy (Carlton Mitchell) who entered the NFL draft," said Story. "I only met with coach Holtz for a little bit, but he seemed like a real good coach too. They both seemed real excited about me and what I could do."
After a seemingly great visit checking out the Campus, how does that affect his views on USF?
"It makes me look at them in a different way. I didn't know what to expect, but everything was real nice and everybody was real welcoming to me. I really liked everything about it," said Ja'Juan. "It seems like a real good school academic wise and have some good programs with all the players getting laptops and I could see how that could help me too."
"Weight room wise they have nice equipment, a cool video record board, and all-round practice facilities with nice fields and a nice basketball dome. I could see myself getting used to it, said Story. "The players and coaches were all real nice and welcoming to me. That's how I would want it to be like."
Last season at receiver, Story had 13 receptions for 423 yards (32.5 yards per catch) and three touchdowns. In two starts at quarterback, he had 27 carries for 265 yards and two touchdowns, and on defense he had 22 tackles and one sack.
The talented prospect currently holds offers from USF, FSU, Marshall, and FIU, but is also hearing from a bunch of other top programs with more offers soon to follow. With all the attention what schools make up his current list of favorites?
