Georgia DB Plans to Trim List, Talks Visits

Kadetrix Marcus is one of the top defensive backs in the Peach State, and with over 20 offers in hand updates his recruitiment and summer visit schedule. Read on for all the details and see where the Bulls stand.

Defensive back Kadetrix Marcus was pegged as one to watch this spring after a solid junior season with Hillgrove HS in Powder Springs, where he tallied 81 tackles, an interception, four forced fumbles and six pass breakups, but decided to transfer to Stephenson High in Stone Mountain, a football powerhouse known to produce talent.

"The spring went great," said Marcus. "I worked on learning the new system, my footwork pretty much and just getting back to the basics and the fundamentals."

A 6-foot-1, 191-pound defensive prospect with 4.5 speed that can also bench press 260 pounds, and squat415 pounds, Marcus was already garnering interest, but this spring he's seen his recruitment explode.

"I have over 20 or more offers now. My most recent offers are from Clemson, West Virginia, USF, Michigan State, and Illinois," said Marcus. "I also have offers from schools like Ole Miss, Auburn, Georgia Tech, Stanford, South Carolina, Connecticut, Duke, and a bunch of others."

Programs have definitely taken notice of his skill set, and Marcus comments on what makes him a good football player.

"I've got a good football IQ, and can read the offenses. I'm also very physical and can fill the ally, and have good football skills. I'm quick, have good strength and a great work ethic."

With a bevy of offers in hand and the spring evaluation over the standout defensive back doesn't have a leader, but is planning on narrowing his list to schools he'll be focusing on.

"No, I don't have a leader right now. I'm trying to trim my list down. I don't have it set yet, but I'm getting close." said Marcus. "I'm starting to get an idea of what schools I fit in with and what schools I don't."

One of the schools recruiting Marcus is South Florida, who's looking at him at strong safety and even though he lives in Georgia, he's originally from Pensacola and said he's somewhat familiar with the South Florida program.

"They're an up-an-coming program and Coach Holtz is good coach and I think he'll turn the program around to get to that next level."

USF is also recruiting two of Marcus's teammates, running back Willie Davis and offensive lineman Tarik Cook.

"We're all friends and we've talked about playing together at the next level, but we'll all go where we each fit best," said Marcus. "A few schools have offered the three of us, South Florida, West Virginia, Ole Miss, and a few others."

While Marcus is sorting through his offer list he does know what criteria he's looking for to help make his choice.

"I'm looking at a lot of different areas," said Marcus. "I'm looking at how much the degree is worth and their alumni base in the state for a career when I finish school. I'm also looking at how many people they get to the league, who their coaches are, their experience, if I fit in to their scheme and depth charts. I'm also looking at the overall environment, how the players interact, and where I fit in best at."

The chance to play early isn't the biggest thing, but it is something that Kadetrix said he does think about.

"I'd like to play early and it does matter, but if it's a situation where I redshirt, I'm okay with that, so I can learn everything and be good to go after that."

He did indicate that he pays attention to schools depth charts and has taken notice of a few.

"I noticed that Auburn graduates some people, and South Florida and Ole Miss need DB's. South Carolina has a lot of DBs so I'm still weighing on them, and there are a few others."

Coaching and how he gets along with those coaches is a big criteria for Marcus, and with all the visitors coming by this spring he said he's developing a bond with several recruiting coordinators.

"Yeah I've got to know a few pretty well," said Marcus. "Coach Thigpen from Auburn, Coach Ward from South Carolina, Coach McGeoghan from USF, Coach Casteel from West Virginia, and Coach Wilcox from Tennessee, are some of the ones."

Marcus said that getting to the next level is something he desires, and has taking notice of players that programs have put into the league.

"Yeah I'm familiar with who got drafted. I know Clemson put a few defensive backs in. South Carolina has had a bunch of DB's drafted. Tennessee just put out Eric Berry. South Florida has bunch in, including a few this year. Ole Miss has also, and so has Miami, but I'm waiting got see if they offer or not. A lot of these schools have put some talent out."

Even though he isn't ready to trim his list, Marcus has mentioned schools like Auburn, South Carolina, Ole Miss, USF, and Tennessee often, and said they're programs that could make his final cut down.

"Yes sir, those are some of the schools I'm looking at, plus a few others," said Marcus. "As I visit them I'll decide if they are for me, and if they're not, then I'll switch them out."

Kadetrix has already visited Ole Miss, Auburn, and South Carolina, and said he plans on having a busy summer taking visits.

"I'm probably going to Tennessee this weekend and hopefully to South Florida in a few weeks and a few other schools like Clemson, Miami, and maybe Ole Miss. I'll probably go see South Carolina and Auburn again, and a few more."
In the classroom Marcus carries a 3.0 core GPA and got an 850 the first time he took the SAT, but is planning to retake it.

Marcus said he has no timeframe as to when he'll make his decision, and won't do so until after trimming his list and taken a bunch of visits to check out each school.

"I've still got some work to do and want to take visits and check out all the schools I'm focusing on," said Marcus. "I'm planning on making a decision either before the season or after the season, it all depends."
