The recruiting buzz around Andre Davis began last July at the USF Sling & shoot 7on7 passing tournament, where the Jefferson wide receiver showed off tremendous ball skills and big play ability. The 6-foot-3 and 185 pound Davis than emerged as one of the leading receivers in all of Florida, finishing the year with 72 receptions for 1,296 yards and 19 touchdowns.
Schools took notice of the 4-star prospect ranked the #17th best receiver by Scout.com as he amassed over 25 offers through the spring from some of the top programs in the country, including Florida State, Miami, USF, Arkansas, South Carolina, North Carolina, Rutgers, and Texas Tech to name a few.
On Wednesday the Jefferson standout took a visit to USF to further check out the hometown Bulls, and liked what he saw.
"Yeah I visited USF yesterday," said Davis. "It went pretty good, actually it went real good."
Davis has already been to USF several times including camps, and practices, but wanted to see more of the campus and the facilities, and came away impressed with what he saw.
"The campus is real nice, very nice actually," said Davis. "Everything about is nice, the weight room is awesome, the student facilities, the training room, all of it was first class."
"I got to speak with all of the coaching staff, they were all real nice, but spent most of the time talking with Coach McGeoghan," said Davis. "He was telling me how I could come in and make a big impact early, and that it's close to home and how that's an advantage stuff like that."
"Coach McGeoghan is a real nice guy, I like him a lot. He's real down to earth and a real person," said Davis. "I talked with coach Holtz also, he's also a real down to earth type guy, and I think he's going to do real big things."
With over 25 offers in hand Davis said that he doesn't have a leader, but several schools have caught his attention.
"No, I don't have any favorites yet, or an official top five" said Davis. "But several schools are sticking out to me, USF, Miami, Florida State, Texas Tech, and Kansas."
Davis said he doesn't have a time frame as to when he'll officially trim his offer list or make a decision, but does know what he's looking for in a program that he'll choose.
"I'm looking for a school that has my major, which is business management. The coaching staff and if I click with the coaches right off the bat. I'm also looking at depth charts and if I can come in and see the field early."
Davis said he's familiar with the USF football team and aware of the wide receivers unit depth chart.
"They got some receivers, but the ones that have had the most production will be gone after next year," said Davis. "After that they're going to need some people."
Another area Davis said he's looking at is what type of quarterback a school has in place, and he knows of Bulls QB B.J. Daniels very well.
"B.J. is my boy, we're friends," said Davis. "He awesome and can do a lot with the football. He can stand in the pocket and hit any throw on the field, or beat you with his legs. He's got all the weapons."
As for the rest of the summer, Davis said he plans on taking several unofficial visits, and attending a few team camps.
"I'll be going to Georgia this weekend, and not sure after that," said Davis. "I know I'll be going to USF's Super Bull camp on the 26th."
Davis got his first taste of fame at last year's Sling & Shoot camp, a tournament where Jefferson has always performed well, and plans on a repeat performance.
"We won't be at this weekend's tourney, but we'll be at the second one next month," said Davis. "We're really looking forward to that."
