Read on for the most detailed report straight from the practice field, and see which players looked good, general observations, and a much more.

Just got back from the 8th practice of the preseason, and before I go into my report I got have to mention that offensive tackle Mark Popek went down with a knee injury. Popek's injury occurred late in practice during 11-on-11 drills, and after remaining on the ground for some time was helped off of the field. The severity of his injury is unknown at this time.

"I know Mark injured his knee a little bit," said Holtz. "We'll have to wait and see where that's going to go. We'll go inside and find out where that is later tonight." Holtz also added "I did not see it. I just know that he was engaged in a block and somebody rolled into it."

Players and fans were treated to a surprise visitor at today's practice when Holtz's father, the legendary Lou Holtz came by dressed in a USF polo and baseball cap, addressed the team before the start of practice and then watched while driving around in his golf cart. This is created a little buzz out on the fields and is just another perk of having a Skip Holtz as a Coach. Afterwards Lou addressed the team again and gave some inspirational words.
