Quoting TCU

"We recruited and know a lot of their kids. We know a lot of their families. For three hours, you have to get after each other. Outside of that, for me, I'm glad that SMU is doing what they're doing." - TCU head coach Gary Patterson

On closing the non-conference schedule: This is the last of a four-game swing, as far as non-conference games are concerned. After playing Baylor last week, this is our second week of emotional games. We're going across town to their house to play a good football team that is 2-1. They really came back on Texas Tech. They're probably the best defense we'll play to this point.

On approaching the SMU game: Offensively, as a June Jones team, they throw the ball around. They play well on special teams. SMU is a good football team and they play hard. It's always a war when we play at Ford Stadium. We're just trying to win a ballgame.

On playing as a highly-ranked team: We understand there is a target on your back when you become a ranked team. Every week you've got to find a way to win by one point. Some days they're going to look a lot prettier than others. So far, we've tried three times and we've won three times. Now, we've got to get to the fourth one. If you get too high or too low, you're going to get yourself in a problem.

On playing SMU in Dallas: Our kids are going to be excited. We love playing in the Metroplex. We love playing over in Dallas. We have a lot of kids from that direction. We understand what's on the line. We understand it's an emotional game, so we're going to get ready to play.

On SMU's success running the ball: When June came there, they had a freshman offensive line. They've all grown up. They have a big running back who is running really well. He's hard to tackle. They do a good job with the draw and the screen game. When you have a big offensive line that has been in the system and a big running back that breaks tackles, you're going to play well.

On playing in-state opponents: We recruited and know a lot of their kids. We know a lot of their families. For three hours, you have to get after each other. Outside of that, for me, I'm glad that SMU is doing what they're doing. I said the same thing about Baylor. The bottom line is that the better we all get in state, the better it is for all of us. If it's tougher on TCU, it's tougher on TCU. That's part of the game.

On the adjustments to playing on a Friday night: We'll be in shorts all week. Two years ago, when we had Thursday night games, we were in shorts the rest of the week. I actually got that from Kyle Whittingham at Utah. We played well against BYU and Utah on short weeks. Even though we didn't win the Utah game, we outgained them 2-to-1 on the road. We try to get our legs and our shoulders back.
