Wright enjoys SMU/Rice

Dayton defensive tackle Darrian Wright made the short drive west to Houston on Saturday evening to watch the Mustangs takes on Rice and the SMU commit liked what he saw.

"SMU did its thing," said Dayton defensive tackle Darrian Wright, who is committed to the Mustangs. "We whooped up on Rice and I liked it. My mother went with me and she stood up and cheered for much of the game. We had the game (in hand) the whole time."

A few weeks ago, Wright went to Dallas for the SMU/UAB matchup.

"I talked to the other defensive tackle commit, Risaad Wimbley, while I was there," he said. "We just talked about things in general and got to know each other."

After an 0-3 start, defending Class 4A semifinalist Dayton has won two in a row.

"We're 2-0 in district," said Wright, "and we beat Galena Park, 54-23, on Friday. Playing those 5A schools in non-district helped us out a lot. I had six tackles against Galena Park and I graded out pretty well."

The previous week, the Broncos throttled Barbers Hill, 54-0. Last season, Dayton posted a 12-3 mark.

Wright picked SMU over offers from Kentucky, Tulane, Colorado State, and several FCS schools.
