Well, the Cubs are yielding less than four points per game and a big part of that success has been the play of senior cornerback Rodney Hubert. The SMU commit leads the team with two interceptions and he's recorded 15 tackles (12 solo).
"I've been playing hard," Hubert said. "I had an interception last week (in a 56-0 win over Spring Woods). We were in man-to-man coverage and one of our linebackers picked up the receiver - who was running a short slant - on my side, so I shifted into more of a free safety role on that play. The quarterback floated the ball up and I went and got it."
On Friday, Brenham puts its perfect 6-0 record on the line at home against undefeated District 17-4A opponent Montgomery (6-0).
"They have the number one offense in the distirct and it should be a battle," said Hubert. "Although they're a spread team, they run it well. They can throw it and they also run, so I'll have to be on my toes."
What's the latest news on the recruiting front from Hubert, who was one of the first prospects in the 2011 recruiting class to give a verbal to SMU?
"I'm still committed to SMU," he said. "I'm being recruited by Coach (Derrick) Odum and we talk a lot. He's very helpful with our conversations - telling me things that help me with my coverage skills."
