SMU Official Visit In Store

SMU's coaching staff was duly impressed when they viewed the film of Central (Baton Rouge) cornerback James Richardson, who has that rare combination of blazing speed and tenacious physical play. This weekend, Richardson is taking an official visit to watch the Mustangs battle Marshall, and he's expects that another Baton Rouge prospect will be there as well.

It's no secret that SMU needs help at cornerback, and one of the best-kept secrets in the south at that position - Central (Baton Rouge) senior James Richardson - will make his way to Dallas this weekend for an official visit.

"I'm taking that visit to SMU this weekend and I'm going to Michigan on December 10th," said Richardson. "Basically, they've (the SMU staff) been telling me the same thing since day one, and that is that I have a really good chance of competing for a starting spot.

"And, yes it's an official visit. I'm going with my family, and they say Nyle Johnson is coming as well."

Central advanced to the first-round of the Class 5A playoffs this year before getting eliminated by New Iberia Senior High last Friday.

Ironically, New Iberia's next opponent is SMU commit Jermaine Sams and undefeated St. Paul's.

Richardson has been timed repeatedly in the 4.35 range, but he's not just a corner with speed. He also loves to hit, which you can quickly ascertain by watching the first few plays of his highlight video.
