Richardson: "I'm deadlocked"

SMU commit James Richardson returned to Louisiana last night from an official visit to Michigan. Get his reaction here.

"It was cool - really cool," said cornerback James Richardson of his official visit to Michigan. "The stadium was great, the academics were great, and the coaches were great.

"I'm 50/50 between SMU and Michigan right now. I'm deadlocked. Both schools have a lot of good aspects. Both have good academics, although Michigan is stronger in Kinesiology, which is what I want to major in."

What stood out most to Richardson during his time in Ann Arbor?

"The coaches," he answered. "They were all nice and sincere. The main factor in my decision will be the coaching. I'm going to wait until January to make my final decision on where to attend school. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens in the bowl game (Gator Bowl) between Michigan and Mississippi State.

"I'm thinking that Coach (Rich) Rodriguez will still be around at Michigan after the bowl game, but I can't say if that will be what makes up my mind. I'm just not sure right now. In the meantime, I'm going to stay committed to SMU."

What advantage does SMU hold over Michigan?

"Distance," replied Richardson. "It's much closer to home. Also, I bonded with the coaches at SMU in the same way that I bonded with the Michigan coaches. The SMU coaches are cool."

The senior from Central High School, which is located northeast of Baton Rouge, led his team to a first-round Class 5A playoff berth this fall. He excelled at cornerback, running back, and kick return.

Richardson posted the fastest 40-yard dash time (4.35) of all participants at last summer's Under Armour Combine held in New Orleans.
