East St. John began the year with eight consecutive wins, but the Wildcats were forced to deal with some unexpected adversity when they lost their head coach the day of their Week Seven game vs. Destrehan. Veteran ESJ boss Larry Dauterive resigned that morning after coming under fire for his public comments at a luncheon in New Orleans.
The Wildcats knocked off Destrehan that night, but lost a 48-41 shootout to then-undefeated No. 1 Dutchtown the following week. ESJ entered the Class 5A playoffs as the No. 6 seed, but they received a tough break in the first-round, drawing eventual state champion Acadiana.
"I like Texas A&M and they're telling me to stay in there and that my offer will come after National Signing Day," said Borne. "Terrell Williams, their defensive line coach, is the one recruiting me.
"Terry Joseph (from the New Orleans area) is recruiting me for Tennessee. Nebraska just recently started sending me stuff. I'm not hearing from Florida State yet, but I'd like to...I'm going to send them my highlight tape when I get it finished."
Borne said that he's also heard from Notre Dame and that he gets plenty of mail from Ole Miss, which recently secured a verbal from East St. John star senior cornerback Floyd Raven.
When asked about his best games this fall, Borne mentioned his team's 34-14 win over Patterson in the season opener, as well as a 41-16 rout of district rival Hahnville in the season finale.
