Kitchen: "I'm ready to get out there"

Three-star cornerback Daren Kitchen signed with SMU this morning and you can get his instant reaction right here.

"I signed this morning at 11:30," said Daren Kitchen, the three-star cornerback from Houma, Louisiana. "I actually feel real good. I'm glad it's official, and I'm ready to get out there."

The rangy, 6-foot-1 defensive back took his official visit to SMU last weekend. How did it go?

"It was really nice," he said. "Everyone made me feel welcome. My host was Richard Crawford and I mostly hung out with him, Rodney Hubert, Christian Holloway, Ronnell Sims, and Darius Johnson. I didn't want to go home."

Did Kitchen and Hubert - both cornerbacks - discuss trade secrets or talk a little friendly trash about who does the best job in coverage?

"We didn't talk about anything like that," he said. "The guys just talked about going out there and playing well over the next few years."

Kitchen was recruited by SMU wide receivers coach Jeff Reinebold.

"Coach Reinebold is a really nice guy who has always made sure that I get everything done," said Kitchen. "He's always had my best interests in mind."
