'11 Signee Spotlight: Christian Holloway

Christian Holloway, the senior defensive end from Bishop Montgomery (Torrance, Ca.), talks with Scout.com about signing with SMU.

"I've just been working non-stop," said Christian Holloway. "I'm taking care of my grades. I'm been hearing from some of the top junior colleges in the country. They've been telling me that if I don't make it (qualify), that I can go there.

"My test score is good. I just need to bring up my GPA three points, and I don't really expect a problem with that. I'm taking an extra English class and an extra Anatomy class, so my days are a couple of hours long than usual. I'm finding time to work out, though. I'm up to 255 pounds, which is an increase of 10 pounds."

Which recruits does Holloway interact with? Was he concered that fellow California native Davon Moreland might go with another program at the last minute?

"I mainly talk with the other California guys who signed," said Holloway. "It's fun. We can't wait to get out there (to Dallas). I do know Daren Kitchen (corner from Houma, La.). He's a cool guy, a Louisiana dude. I talk to him and the defensive tackle from Texas, Darrian Wright.

"With Moreland, it was funny. I was talking with Dontae Levingston when people were saying that Moreland might sign with Oregon State. We were wondering what was up, but he was all SMU, so we figured he was just creating some suspense."

At 6-foot-5, 255 pounds (and with surprising quickness), Holloway could emerge as a pivotal member of SMU's '11 recruiting class. He'll be difficult for offensive tackles to contain off the edge when rushing the passer.
