Sulphur Springs RB lands first offer

Kendrick Daniels, the lightning-fast RB from Sulphur Springs (Tx.) HS, talks with about his first scholarship offer.

Kendrick Daniels has enjoyed two stellar days in a row. This afternoon, the junior with 4.3 speed won three gold medals at a track meet. Yesterday, Daniels snagged his first scholarship offer, courtesy of Arkansas State.

"They want me bad," said Daniels. "Arkansas State is at the top of my list, because they're the first school to offer. I look at it like - even if no more offers come, then I got one. They asked me to keep them at the top of my list and not throw them out."

Where will the next offer originate?

"I don't know," said Daniels. "If I could choose, I'd say Baylor or Oregon. I like Baylor's academics. I've looked at their offense and it's perfect for me.

"Arkansas has sent a few letters and so has Kansas. I don't really see myself going to Kansas, because they're only taking one running back. I expect they'll probably get somebody else before me."

This evening, Daniels tore it up on the track for Sulphur Springs.

"I won three gold medals, but I wasn't happy with my time in the 100. I won, but I didn't like my time. I ran an 11.0 today, but I ran a 10.5 as a freshman. We also won the 4 X 100 and 4 X 200 relay. Cody Clayton (junior WR) runs on the relay team with me."

Last year, Daniels ran for close to 1,600 yards for Sulphur Springs, which finished 9-3. He added 210 yards receiving and scored 20 touchdowns.
