SMU offers Gray

SMU recently extended a scholarship offer to three-star WR Deante' Gray (Houston Westside), and you can get the details here.

"SMU offered me this week," said Deante' Gray. "I believe it was three days ago. Coach (Jeff) Reinebold is recruiting me, and he's been telling me about the successful receivers that SMU has produced. He's also talked about the academics at SMU.

"It's a good place to go to school. June Jones is a great offensive-minded coach, and I've seen what they do with their receivers. I'm interested."

The Mustangs join Baylor, Oregon State, Colorado, UTSA, Texas Tech, and Utah as schools that have offered Gray.

Does the junior plan on committing soon? Which programs does he favor?

"I'm not really close to making a decision," he said. "I don't have a specific time in mind, but pretty soon I'm going to start narrowing down my top schools."

Colorado has already secured a commitment from Gray's friend and teammate, RB Ben Catalon. What does Gray think about the Buffaloes?

"They seem really interested," he said. "Coach Bobby Kennedy seems to be a great wide receivers coach."

Next week, Gray and Catalon will run in the Class 5A regional track meet.

"I qualified in the 100, 200, and the 4 X 100," said Gray. "Ben runs on the 4 X 100 with me. My personal bests in the 100 are a wind-aided 10.46 and a 10.73. In the 200, it's a 21.8."
