June Jones releases statement

After Wednesday's chaos, June Jones releases a statement saying he will be staying at SMU and is excited to lead the program into the Big East.

June Jones is currently in Birmingham, Ala. for the BBVA Compass Bowl coaches press conference, but the SMU athletic department issued a statement from the coach today regarding Jones' interest in other programs in the last week:

"In the past week, multiple schools have contacted me about their vacant head coaching positions. I did not seek them out, but I did listen to these opportunities.

"I was open and honest with the SMU administration throughout this process and I am very appreciative of their understanding.

"I am happy with the progress we have made at SMU and am committed to this University. We have accomplished much, but I believe we can do much more. I'm thankful for the opportunity to lead the SMU football program as we return to national prominence and make the monumental move into the Big East Conference.

"We will now turn our focus to the BBVA Compass Bowl – our third straight bowl berth – and to finalizing an amazing 2012 recruiting class. The future is bright for SMU football."
