SMU to hire Palcic as offensive line coach?

The Mustangs could announce former UCLA offensive line coach Bob Palcic as their own O-line coach in the coming weeks. If so, it looks like the schools pulled quite the switch-a-roo, as Palcic left the Bruins program right when they hired former SMU coach, Adrian Klemm.

SMU could announce former UCLA offensive line coach Bob Palcic for the same position with the Mustangs very soon, according to a source.

If Palcic comes to the Hilltop, it looks like the schools pulled a nice switch-a-roo as Adrian Klemm, SMU's former offensive line coach, is now at UCLA coaching the front five and running game.

According to Scout analysts who have covered UCLA, Palcic is a "great X's and O's guy, but a terrible recruiter."

Guess the recruiting tidbit doesn't necessarily matter too much as SMU hired Jason Phillips, who has a hot recruiting footprint in Texas and Louisiana, for that position.

SMU will graduate its starting five this year and will have two seniors next year in Bryan Collins and Blake McJunkin (if he's granted a medical hardship, that is).

In other words, the Mustangs will have a young offensive line with players like Kris Weeks, Taylor Reich, Taylor Lasecki and Ben Gottschalk all fighting for spots.

SMU currently has three linemen in its 2012 recruiting class in Seaver Myers, Chauncey Briggs and Christian Chamagua, and is on the verge of snagging Chase Walling away from North Texas.

Palcic may not be the best recruiter in the business, but he is great at developing players, which will be important with such a youthful group.

Palcic coached at UCLA for four years in the Rick Neuheisel regime. He's coached three Outland Trophy winners and has spent time coaching at the collegiate level (Ball State, Arizona, Wisconsin, UCLA) and in the pros (Cleveland, Detroit, Atlanta, New Orleans).

As it turns out, Palcic coached the Falcons' offensive line while June Jones was head coach there from 1994-96.
